Yes, good job. Let me guess: there was some arranging and sequencing in
another program (probably a DAW) later?

I've been feeling like that's the best way to do things lately, especially
when working on multiple drafts of heavily sequenced and time-ordered pieces
of music. I'd rather concentrate on writing music, rather than writing my
own DAW in Pd; free time is limited and precious.

Any more recent stuff to jam to?

[PD] call for a color pallette

2007-01-08 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

I fixed up the IEM GUI properties panel so that it works on all
platforms (the presets now show their color on Mac OS X) and added
four more columns of tiles. So that means I need to fill it with 12
more colors. I am also thinking that another column might fit,
making for 15 more colors. (FYI, this will all included in the next
Pd-extended release, and is in the nightly builds as of today)

Anyone want to develop a new color palette for these buttons? I need
them in the IEM GUI color format (that strange int). Here are the
current colors:

Re: [PD] Re: pd music

2007-01-08 Thread m.weiss

wow
i didnt expect that resonance
i dont know where to begin
first all tracks are done with a 233mhz win32 machine
with emagic logic
so nothing is synthesized in realtime
ive made the sounds with vst-plugins, pdvst and
pd standalone, put the files into logic and began
to build regions, so you can say a cut and copy compilation
mostly worked at the sounds with very simple solutions
like rounding- and math-functions, pitchtracking and
a patch called slicer from forum für umlaute i guess
ive burned some sounds on cd and skipped it
it happens that from a sound a sound is done and again from
this one and so on
and at the end theres no original sound but only variables of sound
that workaround was not very intuitiv
so im working on a gop-system within pd to make things easier
ive lost much time in building an arrangement-modul with all comfortable
things like copy and paste, and selction mechanisms
but this wasnt satisfied enough
now im using logic for the arrangement-part and pd for the synthesis
on a new machine of course
and maybe there will be a new cd this year and
an own music-label?
thanks
greets from nürnberg

maybe it whouldnt be so pd specific. is there any sort of 'technology in arts'
mentoring group for SoC? last i checked it was mainly projects used in Ubuntu..

well, i guess it needs some open discussion among the pd developers, and
especially with miller about what projects he would accept or not.

i mean, it's probably useless to have someone work on something like
simd optimization, the scheduler or xlet tooltips, if miller is not
 going to accept the code.

so, i'd definitely like to hear, what miller thinks of this ...

Yeah me too lately. I've been using seq24 with Pd + [sssad] + a bunch of
GOP abstractions from my s-abstractions collection. I actually built a
few block-sequencer style GOP datastructure abstractions to do similar
note/sequence editing to seq24 from inside Pd, but they were way too
slow with more than a few notes/sequences, and crashed Pd quite often
(sorry, I didn't file a bug report because I'm lazy). Seq24 + Pd +
[sssad] is like a dream come true.

Will post some music in this thread when it's finished!

Best,

Chris.

from looking at the source and makefile. Would anyone know what it
would take to compile under Linux?

I have had success getting readings using the driver found here:
http://www.wiili.org/index.php/WMD

The Wii remote follows the Bluetooth HID standard, so I am trying
to use Hans-Christoph Steiner's [hid], but the external assumes
that all hid devices exist at locations like: /dev/input/event1

The WMD driver assigns the remote to /dev/input/uinput (because it
uses the uinput kernel module). Is there any way to tell the [hid]
object to look there instead?

[wiiremote] uses the Apple Bluetooth HID API, so it'll only work on
Mac OS X/Darwin. It would take porting it to the Linux/bluez API.

Currently, the only way to change the device used is to change the
source code and reimplement it. But we'll add uinput support to
hidio, which is currently under development. It's included in the
nightly test builds already (the ones with a date).

I'm not getting crashes now - its trying to connect.

I'm getting the same situation that i was getting at one point
with the max patch, so am hopeful that i can rewind my memory to
the point where i remember how I resolved it.

The connect message appears in the the pd window as connect 1,
and if you 1 a one to a metro hooked up to the wii object you get
16 16 16 0 coming out (no changing values). The flashing leds
don't stop on the wii remote (this is the sign that it is trying
to pair - the pairing attempts usually time out after 15 secs or
so if nothing is found to pair with, so something is going on).

Will report back tonight if I have more news.

Happy New year everyone.

Nick

I got myself on a machine that at least had bluetooth, so I
could debug this. I found it, I forgot to add the line to the
Pd section that allocates the memory to the wiiremote pointer.
This line was added in b4 to the Max part, now its in the Pd
part so it should work:

x-wiiremote = (WiiRemoteRef)getbytes(sizeof(WiiRemoteRec)); //
add in 1.0B4

Since I am using the same code as the Max object, I am sure I
just overlooked something like an init, so its crashing. I
don't even have bluetooth on my machine, so I can't really
test it. The code is in CVS if you want to try your hand at
debugging it.
