Re: [PD] pd, windows & ubuntu

2008-02-16 Thread Joe Newlin
I tried running pd -verbose from the terminal, but got the same
errors. It looks like at least some of the extended libraries are not
being searched, and that pd is not searching subdirectories of the
paths I entered.

I'm sure it is something simple, but being fairly in the dark about
both pd and linux, putting the two together is a recipe for confusion.

Re: [PD] pd, windows & ubuntu

2008-02-16 Thread Kevin McCoy
Does the sigpack library load when you specify it in the "Startup"
preferences? The .pd_linux extension is just a pd external binary for
linux. I have had problems like this before - try running pd with
verbose (pd -verbose from the terminal) and see what you get as far as
specific errors. This can and will be fixed - it's probably something
simple :)

Yo b,

Are you on OS X, Win32, or Linux? Almost every popular external,
unauthorized definitely, is included in Pd-ext .39-3. To load a
library every time you start pd, go to File > Startup and you'll see
several rows where you can type the name of the lib you want to load
at startup. For example to load sevy's "unauthorized" lib you would
type unauthorized, click "Save all settings" and the restart pd. In
Pd's terminal window it will often say what libs are loaded if they
are programmed to give a shout-out on startup.

Finding out what is and isn't there is tricky, but if you tell us what
platform you're on it will be easy to explain. In my experience the
only big thing that isn't there is Gridflow and some wilder stuff.

Also, you wouldn't happen to be the same Bryan Eubanks who made this
record: http://www.gmby.net/releases/gb100.html

Cause if so that stuff is really good and we should talk.
cheers

Re: [PD] pd, windows & ubuntu

2008-02-16 Thread Joe Newlin
Okay, I was using .40-2. So I installed .39 extended, and solved one
problem: objects had been resized and everything was a mess.

That's okay now.

But some objects are missing, e.g. decimate~ from extra/sigpack. The
object is installed in /usr/lib/local/pd/extra/sigpack (with a
.pd_linux extension - which leads me to wonder what this extension is,
and why these objects have it) but pd can't create the object.

Having similar trouble with other objects in different paths, although
I have tried defining the paths in File menu and everything looks
okay, but the objects aren't being created.

I appreciate the help, thanks.

What specific error messages are you seeing?
Are objects missing? Have paths changed?

Which versions are you using on the respective machines?
It could be more to do with that than the OS.

Locate errors by reading the console and using
Edit->Find Last Error

my question regards what libraries are included in pd extended .39-3
(looking for unauthorized in particular) and how do I load these at start up
as well as how do I make a path to externals I have placed on my hard drive
under /myexternals or something?

thanks!!

I could think about other interface related changes:
for example when only one object is selected and you start typing (any
other than arrows) it should be possible to write into the object
without an additional click into the object. I often use ctrl+d to
duplicate an object and then arrow keys to place it on the canvas, and
then I would like to just start typing into the object.
or when there is more than one object selected and I click into one
object, but do not drag, then that object could switch to type-entry
mode. right now I have to unselect all objects by clicking into the
canvas and then click into the box to start text entry.
and also exiting entry mode with enter would actually be nice, too. (for
messages cr could be shift+enter (the cr is overwritten anyway).
btw are there any hooks so that more actions could be triggered by
keyboard shortcuts? (i think pd.tk holds some keyboard shortcuts..)
oh, and one other thing I find useful in max is the alt click and drag
function. you click on an object and as soon as you start draging that
object is duplicated, but at the same time you already have the new
object at the cursor position and can place it fast at a new spot.

cheers,
marius.

I just saw this email now, don't know how I missed it before, sorry-

yes, i am planning to improve the audio support in the next version,

now,
i don't plan on adding modular audio (like pd/msp). maybe if javascript

Re: [PD] autobuilds using svn

2008-02-16 Thread bsoisoi
Hey guys,

Okay, I have a legit fink environment now with all Pd-extended
dependencies. There is a bug in the 0.28.0 release which prevented me
from installing Jack (something having to do w/ a virtual
dependency)... i cleared it out and installed Jack first, the rest
fell into place easily.

Only 2 issues remain. I can build Miller's vanilla PD without Jack
support, the most current Jack from fink is installed on my system, in
addition to tcl/tk 8.5.1.
1. The configure script is unable to find Jack in my fink installation
2. When built w/o Jack, the build is unable to find -ltcl8.5, and
tries to build against 8.4 (which I don't have) but succeeds. When Pd
is executed, it crashes trying to run Wish.app version 8.4 (which I
don't have).

Besides those two issues, all looks good. If anyone is able to help
me out w/ this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Peace,
~Brandon

ps: lets move this discussion over to Pd-Dev

2008-02-16 Thread Roman Haefeli
if the same os is some linux flavour, it is probably because of
different display settings that result in different font scalings. i
noticed, that on computers with smaller resolution sometimes tinier
fonts are used. unfortunately, i don't know what the correct solution
for this problem is, if there is anything that could be considered
*correct*. however, i sometimes was able to solve it by giving the
option '-dpi 80' when doing 'startx'. alternativel it might also help to
specify 'DisplaySize X Y' in 'Section "Monitor"' in your xorg.conf.
Making the Display bigger than it actually is scales down fonts and vice
versa.

Screen DPI setting. This could even vary between two screens on the
same computer in a dual-head setup, here it happens to be the same:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep DPI /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(++) fglrx(0): DPI set to (100, 100)
(++) fglrx(1): DPI set to (100, 100)

[PD] Pd Fontsizes

2008-02-16 Thread Peter Plessas
Hi!

What reason can there be if the same patch does not display the same
fontsizes on two different computers, both running the same OS and the
same Pd version?

regards, PP
