2008-02-18 Thread Sergi Lario

Hi. I trying to create 2 channel videomixer in pd/gem. And now have 2
questions- how i can make 2 gemwin's to use 1 as preview and other as
output, and second- how i can make file list or grid of images to
preview my videofiles and then load it's to pix_film. Big thx.

Hi.

About multiple gemwin at same time: I don't know if it's possible, but it
would be very useful.

You can see some interesting objects in

http://hangar.org/wikis/lab/doku.php?id=start:puredata_pdvjtools

This objects are only available for Linux.

cheers,

Sergi.

you can add extra paths or libraries in the preference dialogues by
adding a colon then the new path (no spaces!!) [then 'apply' then
'save settings'] next time you open the dialogue it will be on the
next line.

perhaps if you have more than the 10 entries you should try editing
the preference file (since you are on OSX it is
org.puredata.pd.plist) directly, using Apple's Property List Editor
instead of struggling with the not-so-friendly preference dialogues.

[PD] Send startup flag on osx

2008-02-18 Thread Nicolas Montgermont
Hi list,

I have a problem with the -send msg ... startup flag on osx.
On linux the flag -send receive_name message works perfect to have
the object [r receive_name] receive message at startup.
On osx with the same syntax I got this in the console:
error: receive_name: no such object
I've tried with some other combinations
-send receive_name message
-send ;receive_name message
without success.

Anyone has an idea to make that flag works?
I'm using
Pd-0.40-3-extended-20080117 on osx 10.4.11
Thanks

Nicolas

Re: [PD] Send startup flag on osx

2008-02-18 Thread marius schebella
I have never used this startup flag, maybe it is not supported under osx?
I can only suggest to use another method to pass startup arguments for
patches. I usually do this with textfiles. I find this useful especially
when I develop patches for other people or if I want to use the patch in
several locations, then people can have their own settings for the
patch, and nothing is destroyed when I do more development on the patch
inbetween.
I use textfile to read the file and spit it out on startup. and then do
the settings from within the patch.

 Hi Sergi,

I've done stuff with two gemwins by running pd 2 times and have the
 two
 instances communicate over OSC.
 It worked quite well.

a while ago there was a multiple-Gemwin version of Gem around - I
tried out the binary that was available and it worked fine (I think
on OSX but possibly Linux?) but I used the 2 pd method instead for my
project.

I don't know if it is possible for one pd to use textures or buffers
created in the other, that would make the preview idea work well with
two pd instances. Soon I want to try 2 camera views of the same 3D
space, I think that would be much easier in a single instance of pd
with two windows!

Is the multiple window patch still working? (preferably on Linux, but
also on OSX?)

Or is there a better way to try this?

[PD] changing polyrhythms with delaylines

2008-02-18 Thread punchik punchik
hi, is it possible to read a delay line without using
delwrite?
i need to trigger a lot of delaylines at differents
speeds for creating some polyrythms.
for example, my first delayline is triggered each 100
miliseconds , my second delayline is triggered each
200 ms and so on
i can do this making a feedback connecting delread
back to delwrite, but the problem with this is that i
cant change the triggering speed -on the fly- without
changing the delay line (if i change the delay time of
delread when its connected to delwrite it gonna change
all the sound stored in the delay line.
any idea of manipulable polyrythms with delays lines?

[PD] nqpoly4 mystery

Does anybody really understand nqpoly4~ ? :)

I don't use it very often , but when I do it needs several goats sacrificing

time, but I just keep getting

$1 $2 $3 $4 $5 $6 $7 $8 $8 can't create

According to the helpfile abstractions need to obey certain requirements.

Does anyone know what these 'certain requirements are, exactly..?

Has anyone every written a tutorial on it? The helpfile contains some
promising looking examples, but honestly after all the time I've used
Pd I still don't understand this voodoo object.

cheers for any help

a window across two screens works fine for me on OSX, I guess it
would depend on drivers, Xorg setup and graphics card on linux but
should be quite achievable, does a preview ok but still it does not
give me 2 viewpoints/camera angles on 1 3D world!

I'll check the other references as well thanks

Re: [PD] nqpoly4 mystery

2008-02-18 Thread Phil Stone
Hi Andy,

I've had good luck with [polypoly], Frank Barknecht's enhancement of
[nqpoly] (it adds polyphonic voice management via PD's [poly] object).
Yes, it was a little tricky to get working, but it's a little less
finicky than [nqpoly], which, if you edit or otherwise touch it, won't
work correctly, due to object order problems.

It's been a while since I worked with it, so I can't remember the exact
pitfalls and solutions, but I have a little documentation, and a working
example, [polywavesynth], at
http://www.pkstonemusic.com/polyWaveSynth.html .

Let me know if I can explain anything from that page.

Load the same 3D space in the two pd's and relate the control data in
some way ?

Hi punchick,

You can use several [delread~]s for one [delwrite~].
One which remains constant and provides the feedback, and another one
that you vary the length of.

([vd~] might be a better option)
Another way could be to use a table instead of a delay buffer.
