hello,

i think there was a kiosk mode somwhere, but can't find the flag.
so, what i would do is create a Gem windows fullscreen, and use gemmouse in
order to get the pointer position...

Re: [PD] bypassing effects

2010-01-11 Thread Marco Donnarumma
Hi,
another good strategy - suggested me by Husk - is to cut and paste. this
mean: you have your abstraction or subpatch containing the effect guts and a
drop-down menu where you can choose other effects (or any other selection
tool). When you choose one you basically trigger few messages to Pd telling
to cut the current effect subpatch and attach the new selected one.
This way you can also save some cpu usage and keep your main patch not
overcrowded.

take a look in the help browser:
manuals pd-msg/ 1.msg_and_patch 0.all_msg.pd

and Ctrl-P keep their original meanings.

For a more complete ChangeLog and links to nightly builds, see:
 http://puredata.info/dev/PdGuiRewrite

Then it may be time to examine why on my AMD64 system neither my own-built
pd, neither others' 64-bit pd binaries are willing to cooperate with the
rewrite. I have tried all 64-bit builds i could get my hands on but the
rewrite refused to load the libs from any of them.

Anyone who successfully used pd with pd-gui-rewrite on 64-bit?

Re: [PD] netsend~/netreceive~

2010-01-11 Thread Roman Haefeli
Hi

I cannot help you debug [netsend~] and [netreceive~], but there are
probably other ways to achieve the same.

I just saw a commit from mrpeach to pd-svn. It seems, that he added
[udpsend~] and [udpreceive~] to his 'net' section.

Alternatively, you could built similar functionality yourself with the
help of zexy's [pack~] and [unpack~] and the non-signal [udpsend] and
[udpreceive]. Of course, this would mean, that you would have to
implement the mux/demux stuff yourself (convert each sample to two or
more 8bit values, pack several channels into one stream).

I have been playing around with the above captioned pair of externs.
I grabbed them from the audioscape project .

I intend to use them for jamming over WiFi (and it has to be WiFi).
My first tests are rather promising but there are some glitches.
[netreceive~] tends to crash pd with a lot of underflows. This seems
to happen mostly whenever WiFi signal strength is not optimal (in the
50-60% range). For the moment, the idea is that the jamming happens
using netbooks running linux. 5 players will send mono signals to a
server which will play back the 5 signals directly and send back mono
signals, one to each player. Currently I am testing on an Acer Aspire
One (atom 1.6), Ubuntu Karmic and pd-extended 0.42.5.

Also, I have compiled those externals for MacOSX but they seem to not
be working correctly, all I get is sporadic short bursts of audio (on
Mac receiving side). The mac was wired but not to the same network (2
linux machines, one on WiFi and antoher on wired, also different
networks, can keep going for several minutes before one of them
 crashes).

I am running netsend~/receive~ in UDP mode.

 Below are backtraces.

[PD] Retrieving MIDI Notes out of MIDI Numbers

2010-01-11 Thread Pedro Oliveira
Hello People,

this is my first post in this list so far, even though I've been playing
around with Puredata for a couple of months... and I've been only recently
on the list and I have to say that I'm learning a lot with you :)

I'm sorry if this is somehow a newbie question (I'm forever a newbie), but I
searched for it and perhaps found the answer on Pd's forum, which is
offline... so here it goes:

is there an object, or maybe an abstraction, to retrieve a MIDI Note's name
out of its MIDI Value? For instance, a 60 would retrieve me C4 (roughly
speaking) and so on? I think that MAX has such object, but maybe I'm missing
something in Pd's documentation...

thanks in advance!

Btw it is not included in PD Extended is it?

As for pdtcl, Federico wrote it, its in the svn. I donno if he's made
releases. I should work on all platforms, its just a matter of
compiling it.

When I open help-intro.pd and try to close it, it either hangs or takes

see if you can reproduce this. I've never had this problem until now..

[PD] folders for abstractions

2010-01-11 Thread Ignacio Lois
Hello everyone,

I'm sort of a newbie to pd, and this is my first question here:

Is there a way to have my abstractions in a separate folder than the one
with the patches that use them?
I'd like to have a subfolder with those, like a toolbox of sorts.

Thanks!

Or even simpler, you can use the folder name as a prefix to the object
name, then it'll work without changing preferences, i.e.:

myprojectdir/my-project.pd
myprojectdir/toolbox/nicetool.pd

Then in your my-project.pd patch, you can just type: toolbox/nicetool
