Re: [PD] VST

2010-05-26 Thread David Schaffer

Hi, get this: https://svn.g.org/ext/trunk/vst/pd/vst~-help.pd
It should get you started.
As for the GUI of your VST, it doesn't always work for me either, but, as
you'll notice, you don't actually need it to interact with your vst.

Good luck!

[PD] keyboard pedal (yamaha fc4)

2010-05-26 Thread Jaime Oliver
Has anyone ever tried (or has one with which they could try) to connect one
of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-FC4-Piano-Style-Pedal/dp/B0002F52EW

fc4 pedals into the line/mic in of a sound card?

It has this 1/4 inch jack and perhaps one could get a sample accurate
expression pedal for cheap?

please let me know if I am about to fry any part of my soundcard, because
i'm going to try one out soon...

best,

J

try to work on compiling Pd-vanilla, as most of the dependencies are already
compiled. I will document it later if I have a success in audio :)

hello,

I'd rather try with an arduino or to connect the pedal to an usb mouse click or
a keyboard key,
this pedal shouldn't generate a signal. I's just a switch where when the pedal

I might add several other algorithms to avoid this,
like using a temporary table, but
just truncating directly from soundfiler looks very simple,
gain of patching time,
maybe I shouldn't pay so much attention to error messages...?

I thought that using -skip and -nframes would just extract the part I want,
without complaining. But even with reading the sources, I could not really get
how to use this option, or if it works.

In other words, is there a way to do it (extract a sample from a soundfile)
without getting error messages?

the error merely tells you that the provided maxsize was less than
 the
soundfile length so the sample had to be truncated.

this is probably an error in most of the times, but not in your case.

anyhow, you don't need to specify the maxsize; if your table is small
enough (aka: too small) Pd will silently drop the other samples.

i do:
[table bar 44100]

[read -skip 88200 foo.wav bar(
|
[soundfiler]

and it will store an excerpt of foo.wav between 00:02 and 00:03

[PD] [Gem][part_source] fill a volume with particles

2010-05-26 Thread patko

I'd like to draw a volume (font characters if possible) with using particles,
and looking for several options
maybe someone has ever worked on this?

A first option would be about using a picture with the 2D volume drawn with
black pixels
and using pix_data to get pixel coordinates for rendering the particles inside

Is it possible to force particles to follow pixels coordinates?

Another solution would be about using a .obj file and get XYZ coordinate, then
force particles to follow
the vertices.

Or maybe there is a way to use a domain in [part_source]
then drawing the font characters with curves, and gives coordinates to
[part_source]?

what is blob domain?

[netreceive] only speaks FUDI; if you want to use XMLHttpRequest, you
have to make XMLHttpRequest output a FUDI conformant message (which is
probably not so easy to do)

then, [netreceive] only does a uni-directional connection: you can send
data from your webpage, but Pd cannot talk back (which might be needed
by XMLHttpRequest in order to complete the request)

an alternative is to use mrpeach's [tcpserver].

I don't know, perhaps :

[#in grid foo.wav, headerless 64, type int16, seek_byte 23456, endian little]

provided you know the byte-position of it. This will read 64 integers of
16 bits each, at every bang. You can then use [#to_list] and [list prepend
$1] and send to an array, where $1 is the position in the array.

all the options after grid foo.wav can be sent as messages with the same
syntax. grid foo.wav can also be sent as message, with syntax open grid
foo.wav, but all other options have to be used _after_ the open.

Re: [PD] Test for html documentation from *-help.pd file

Hello,

My question is : how do you make that conversion ? because that conversion
is based on assumptions, and those assumptions may not be portable between
the different conventions for making help patches (various different PDDP
templates, the GFDP system, Miller's help, GEM's help, etc)
All you need is an abstraction (pure-pd) called 'helpSeparator'. You
have to put it between the example patch and the description. On the
capture (patch.png), this is the black rectangle over 'DESCRIPTION'.

Then, a PHP script running on the server where there is the help files
files analize this '-help.pd' and return an HTML document (html.png).

This system works also if you use subpatch in you '-help.pd' as
'gemwin-help.pd' does ([pd viewing], [pd buffering], etc.).
In my 'rectangle-FR-help.pd', there is a [pd pourvoir] in [pd gemwin]
with the same abstraction 'helpSeparator' inside. You can see this on
the html.png (starting with the blue line 'pourvoir').

For the arborescence (?) to the 'rectangle-FR-help.pd' i do this :
gem - help - FR - rectangle-FR-help.pd.

I wondered if it would be possible to define the language with the next
version of Pd (with new GUI) ? Then a 'help' on an object will choose
the right directory for the help (here FR) ?
++

Jack

Do you think it is interresting to keep an online documentation always
update from the '*-help.pd' file ?

It's good to the extent that it makes things searchable on google and
 stuff.
Yes, with this method, it would be easy to generate an (always) update
version of the help documentation in HTML and accessible with a browser.

I keep in mind a Mathieu's remark I think it is true/good : it is
better and more simple to make the help directly in the help-patch
(Mathieu, I hope it is a good translation ! ;).

Je me souviens pas d'avoir dit ça de même.
Si, si, c'était sur IRC, je crois ;)
But, I don't have trace of this...
The problem was : developpers don't want to build differents systems of
help patch and prefer to do it directly with Pd.
I don't put quote anymore ! :)
++

Jack

You should check your citations. For my lines, it's easy, I only used
email and IRC, no voice. Then I probably was explaining why. I don't
especially like my opinions to be quoted without their explanations. I
don't tend to value opinions without justifications.
