this site is very partial (mostly consumer music )

2013/10/14 Samuel Burt composer.samuel.b...@gmail.com:
I've been teaching classes for several years now and always provide examples
of electronic music from the origins to the 70s. I've also been integrating
a little historical background of modern dance music. What I'm really
lacking is a substantial list of important works that have been made
possible by personal computers, especially those that incorporate
interactivity or couldn't have been made without intense digital processes
like FFT or granularization. I'm familiar with a few, but is there already a
good list to draw from so I don't get bored from repetition?

Works created in Pd are even better for selling the idea of learning to

Re: [PD] moog~ in pure pd?

2013-10-15 Thread Billy Stiltner
martin, I have not tried the moog but did use one of your abstractions
using the fexpr~ as a starting point to build the original dsp cookbook
filters(frequency thats where its happenin man) , I had been wanting to
hear them in realtime since 1998 or so. I'm not sure I have them in there
correct as they are over resonant but make a nice oscillator for drums if
properly limited.

the undocumented 2nd output of vcf~ is a lowpass. and there are a few
methods to build the basic (cookbook) filters with pd-vanilla-objects:
you could use fexpr~ to make your own signal-rate biquad. it works very
well, but needs a lot more cpu than necessary. or you could use
cpole~/czero~. like in the beequad-abstractions. i have used the same
method in all my filters, with signal-rate. (in my instruments
collection on my homepage). of course this is still not exactly
moog~. it should be possible though to make a moog-abstraction
in the same way, but i have not tried (yet)...
 maybe anyone else has already?

 bis denn!

Hi pd-list,

I tested pdvjtools on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 GNU/Linux today.

colorgrid, videogrid and pix_preview should compile and run fine.

I tested these externals with

Pd-0.43.0 () compiled 11:56:34 Jun 16 2011
and
Pd-0.44.0 (extended-20131015) compiled 11:42:24 Oct 15 2013

I hope you can make it run too.

Re: [PD] [PD-announce] pdp 0.14.0

2013-10-15 Thread Tom Schouten

btw, is 3dp supposed to work?
loading pdp_opengl gives me an error undefined symbol:
pdp_xwindow_create_on_display.
indeed this symbol is used (and even exported via pdp_xwindow.h) but
nowhere implemented.

in pdp 0.14.0, pdp/opengl is not yet ported to zl.

last weekend i added a rough draft in my darcs repo, just getting the
old code the point of compilation on top of zl.

it does something but probably needs some fixes. a merge with the 3D
code in pf is next.

further tests might expose the glx window close problem as they now use
the same code.

for contribs, would it help if I convert the repo format to git and put
it on github?

i was never a fan of svn, but git i can live with..

We all have our lists, but one useful thing is to check out various course

you can get an idea of what other people are teaching.

as cw_binaural~ library is written in C++ (at least have .cpp file, I
didn't look at the code) the template needs some tweak to work

what kind of tweak it needs? I'm not a C coder but I can try to mess a
little bit aroundcan you explain me a bit more please?

default makefile is looking to *.c files instead of *.cpp
all the build rules are made to deal with .c and not .cpp
this lead to weird behavior like the make clean rule would delete all
your .cpp sources files listed in the Makefile...

also I just tried this and I got :
make: *** Pas de règle pour fabriquer la cible « cw_binaural~.so »,
nécessaire pour « all ». Arrêt.

I'm not sure to get it

I mean I was trying to build with a tweaked Makefile, but it failed and I
don't know why now...

btw, I used to include the sources of externals for android directly into
my Eclipse project
small changes in Android.mk and Application.mk make it very easy to work
with external in libpd (it can be built and updated automatically when
running the app)
see the example in libpd and moreover the ScenePlayer source to get started

I could post here an example on how to build C++ external in Eclipse if you
need

cheers

 thanks

Re: [PD] Alternative to pdp_colorgrid

2013-10-15 Thread Sergi Lario
Yep,

In order to compile pdvjtools we really need
pd sources, Gem, pdp and ffmpeg library,
although not every external use all of these.

Using the sources at svn
http://sourceforge.net/p/pure-data/svn/HEAD/tree/trunk/externals/pdvjtools/
the Makefile searches for
../../pd, ../pdp/include, ../../Gem/src, and /usr/include/ffmpeg

A part of install ffmpeg, what I did was

1-- build a pd-extended using git clones for pd-extended and gem, and a svn
checkout for pd-svn, like Full Approach of
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/WorkingWithPdExtendedSources and
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/BuildingPdExtended (some problems by
missing files but solvable ^)

and 2-- compile pdvjtools with make clean, make and make install.

The first process it's only to get sources in the right place and
configure, but we can do in other ways.

Here some command lines I did.

1--
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel$ git clone git://
git.code.sf.net/p/pure-data/pd-extended pd-extended
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel$ svn checkout svn://
svn.code.sf.net/p/pure-data/svn/trunk pd-svn
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel$ git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/pd-gem/gemgem

sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn$ mv pd pd-original
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn$ ln -s ../pd-extended pd
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn$ ln -s ../gem Gem
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn/externals$ ln -s ../../gem Gem

sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn/packages/linux_make$ make clean make
install
(^ here I found some missing files like iemlib.h over some folders and
replaced for a existing one, and a simple file creation for the missing
help patches)

2--
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn/externals/pdvjtools$ make clean
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn/externals/pdvjtools$ make
sll@nasus:~/perkals/pd/devel/pd-svn/externals/pdvjtools$ make install

At the end, each external folder should contain the binay pd_linux file.

As I mentioned before, this is a the way I used to compile pdvjtools today,
but no all the steps listed at 1-- are necessary.
There is also the possibility to compile each external from its own
Makefile.

I hope it helps.

S.

it does something but probably needs some fixes. a merge with
the 3D code in pf is next.

i don't know what does something means, but it sounds like a good start.

Most of it seems to work but I'm not sure if the scale / projection
parameters are correct.

Some of the examples do not look like I remember them, but then
comparing with the last couple of releases does seem to give similar
results...

further tests might expose the glx window close problem as they now
use the same code.

that might have been a false alarm.
i haven't been able to reproduce the problem now on two different
machines (one with an intel gfx card, the other with nvidia drivers);
the machine with the ati-radeon card might have a different problem.

I've also noticed rare, hard to reproduce problems with X / GLX so
there's probably something not right.
