[PD] a better way to make a patch

2010-01-09 Thread Konstantinos Benardis
Hi all

I want to make a patch to play randomly 8 concrete midi notes. I made the
attached patch. As you can see i needed to make many connections by hand and
this is something it happens to many of my patches. Would it be a better way
to make this patch without having to make that many connection? What makes
me believe that should be a better way is that as far as i know, select many
objects and connect them with one click to another object has never appear
as a question or as a feature of an enhanced gui.

Thanks for your help

[PD] Studies on sound

2009-11-19 Thread Konstantinos Benardis
Hi list

Well, the question is not that relevant with the list´s subject but i can
not find another place to ask and i think many people from here would be
able to answer. I am trying to find a master degree in digital music/digital
sound, in Europe, in English Spanish or Greek. So i wanted to ask if someone
knows which Institutes are considered good on this field.

I could not imagine the topic is that much explored. Thank you for the

vague, this is just the general idea, you can find more on these topics in

[PD] [++ ] object wont work

2009-11-13 Thread Konstantinos Benardis
Hi list

I want to trigger a bang when a specific number occurs in a serie of running
numbers for example from the output of a line object. I use the [== ] object
to lookup but the object wont work if the numbers are running too fast. What
could be the problem? Is there another way to do the lookup?

Re: [PD] [++ ] object wont work

2009-11-13 Thread Konstantinos Benardis
Indeed the number was not in the stream. I was changing the number with the
mouse which does not produce all the numbers in the serie.

Thank you

  hi!

 this could have several reasons:

 - if you are using graphical bangs they don't blink when triggered at high
 rates

 - possibly be the number doesn't appear in the stream - try to use print
and look if the number is actually there. the line object only outputs some
numbers between its start and end. if you want to have all integer numbers
between start and end you could use counters, see attached patch.

 - the value is a float value and doesnt exactly match the value to be
compared with, even when displayed as equal when using a number to display
them. to solve this either use an [int] object before comparing the numbers
or give a range, for example to compare 4 and 4.1 to be equal you
 could use 4 - 4.1 = 0.001

 cheers,
 martin

 hi François

have you a) got a midi interface plugged in? b) set up an IAC bus in the
 Audio/Midi setup?

If you have neither of these then nothing will appear in the midi settings
 box in pd.

 cheers

[PD] Install Pd on Fedora 10 x86_64

2009-11-03 Thread Konstantinos Benardis
Hi list

I am trying to install Pd on Fedora 10 x86_64. There is no binary package
for this (in CCRMA repository neither). I tried to build from source but
there is no configure file in src directory. Should i make without
configure or would be better to try to install the i386 binary.

First of all sorry for double posting but i did not receive my own posting.

I tried to compile with the other method by doing make in /src/libs and
pointing to the /src of my local installation of vanilla and i get this
error:

make -C aconnect INLCUDES=-I/home/kostis/CUBEmixer/src/libs/../pd/src

make[1]: *** [aconnect.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/kostis/CUBEmixer/src/libs/aconnect'

I have Fedora installed on a mac ppc system. Does anyone have any idea on
how to solve these problems?

Thank you in advance

Thank you for your reply IOhannes,

you can configure how mailman will send postings to you via the
web-interface. a link to this interface is attached to each and every
mail you get from the list.

somehow mailman refuses to accept my option *Receive your own posts to the
list but Its not a big problem now that i know it.

*

 oh its ppc

i guess you have to manually remove the -mms-bitfields from all of the
makefiles that fail to build with that flag.

I tried to remove manually the -mms-bitfields flags but i get a really long
list of errors starting with:

make -C aconnect INLCUDES=-I/home/kostis/CUBEmixer/src/libs/../pd/src
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/kostis/CUBEmixer/src/libs/aconnect'
aconnect.c:21:18: error: m_pd.h: No such file or directory
gcc -DHAVE_ALSA -DACONNECT_VERSION=\0.4\ -I.-fPIC -g -O2 -c -o
aconnect.o aconnect.c
aconnect.c:21:18: error: m_pd.h: No such file or directory
aconnect.c:25: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’
before ‘*’ token
aconnect.c:29: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before ‘t_object’
aconnect.c:36:28: error: alsa/asoundlib.h: No such file or directory
aconnect.c:45: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’
before ‘*’ token
aconnect.c:47: error: expected ‘)’ before ‘*’ token
...

could you check whether configure has been called and what it said about
 -mms-bitfield.

No, as far as i can understand it doesn´t call configure. The error message
in the previous mail is the complete error message.

I think this fedora configuration on an old ppc is a bit like acrobatics and
i am not a linux/programming acrobat at all :) I will try to do the
installation on an Intel machine.

Thank you again.
