Re: [PD] [OT] Going to Tokyo - PD Media Art Scene

2013-02-12 Thread Seiichiro MATSUMURA
Hi Leandro,

PD and Media Art scene while I'm there - from feb 18th to march 2nd.

I will organize the (maybe) first Pd Synthesizer Workshop at Tokyo
this weekend but they are only 16-17th.

http://low-tech-ism.com/ltb/?p=875

Unfortunately it will be finished before your visit to Tokyo.
I will tell to participants about Pecha Kucha Night.
What are you going to demonstrate?

Numbers of Pd users here in Japan are quite limited yet but we start
the Pure Data Japan portal web site very soon expecting users
increased from now.

Japan Media Arts Festival exhibition will be opened at Roppongi during
your stay. Please check it out.

 Hi all!

So, I'm going to Tokyo next week to present at the 100th Pecha Kucha Night.

I've never been to Japan before and I'm looking forward to get to know the
PD and Media Art scene while I'm there - from feb 18th to march 2nd.

So, I would love to get to know people from the PD community in Tokyo, visit
media labs and hackerspaces if there are any.

 Any suggestions?

 Dear Mailing List,

Hello. My name is. Chikashi Miyama, a Japanese composer, living in Germany.
I have just finished writing a book about Pure Data in Japanese. The book
will be relased on Feb. 4 .2013.
This is the third book about Pd in Japanese and probably the biggest book
(463 pages)!! ( if you do not Interpret Designing Sound as a book about Pd
 ; )

The main target of the book is musicians and artists who want to use Pd for
 their artistic creations.
The first part of the book includes 15 step-by-step tutorials. Through these
tutorials, the readers can learn how to program metronome, synthesizer,
sampler, granular sampler, drum machine, various time-domain and
frequency-domain effects, presets, data structure and so on..
The second part introduces 6 advanced ways to use Pd employing external
software and devices, such as Arduino, iPhone, Logic... It also explains how
to use GEM, how to connect multiple Pds over the network, and how to program
your own objects in C language with XCode. The third part is the object
dictionary, covering almost all Pd-vanilla objects with simple example
 patches
Furthermore, the book includes interviews with three active artists using Pd
 for their projects.

You can pre-order the book now on amazon Japan the price is 4,725 JPY.

Hi Hans,

I found the solution to make IAC Driver visible in MIDI setting
window of Mac OSX.
In Japanese Mac OSX as a default, the name of Apple IAC Driver is
written in Japanese name with 2byte characters in Audio MIDI setting
application of Utility folder. So I changed the name of IAC Driver
to English one.
I am not sure this is affected, it seems MIDI setting working fine now
with no freeze.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Language difference could be a cause. Because in MIDI setting window,
Apple's default IAC driver should be appeared but it is indicated as
 blank. (see attached file.)
 driver is translated in Japanese.
Also some audio interface have Japanese character names.
I will try it under English mode later.

I have 10.6, and when I switch to Japanese, the IAC driver is still in
English. They must have added those translations in 10.7. Can you run this
command to start Pd in your Terminal when in Japanese mode and send me the
result? You can Copy and Paste everything starting from the command it into
a text file and attach that. Once Pd launches, go to Media-Audio Settings,
and Media-MIDI Settings. If it crashes, then you'll probably need to do
 Audio and MIDI separately.

 /Applications/Pd-0.43.4-extended-20130104.app/Contents/Resources/bin/pd

Hi Hans-Christoph,

Thanks for the correction.
Somehow, I can't access to puredata.info now so I can't test the latest beta.
I think these are all the points should be correceted.

can't wait for the 0.43 extended!
appreciate your work.

 Hey Sei,

I just double-checked in transifex, it seems that they are switched there. If
you make updates in transifex to fix anything, I'll make sure those updates
get included. Right now the only thing left is to finalize the translations.

I checked the differences and made any obvious corrections, I think I found
all the glitches. Here's the list of what I corrected:

  msgid --dimensions(pix):---
 -msgstr 水平ラジオボタン
 +msgstr ---表示サイズ(pix):---

  msgid Array
 -msgstr (履歴には矢印キーを使用)

Hi,

Hmm, this I've never seen happen. Does it happen in English mode too? Do any
of the names of your Audio or MIDI devices have non-latin or Japanese
 characters in them?

Language difference could be a cause. Because in MIDI setting window,
Apple's default IAC driver should be appeared but it is indicated as
blank. (see attached file.)
driver is translated in Japanese.
Also some audio interface have Japanese character names.
I will try it under English mode later.

Re: [PD] Pd-extended on Windows now has localization support

2013-01-06 Thread Seiichiro MATSUMURA
Hi Hans,

I see and look forward next update.

 set LANG=ja
 %ProgramFiles(x86)%\pd\bin\pd

At the moment, I test this and see Japanese menu is working on Windows8.
However, I find some parts are strange indications not as same as
English Windows menu does.
I do a quick report.

-Under the Put menu, indication of Array is swapped with (use
arrow keys for history) in Japanese. If I click it, it works fine.
(also on Mac OSX Japanese)
-In Pd Window, indication of Log: is swapped with Draw as:. (also
on Mac OSX Japanese)

Compared with Version 20121211, these have been changed through the
updating. I guess some confusions were happened at any points.

Best,

Sei

In the mean time, you can test it in cmd.exe by running this:

 set LANG=ja
 %ProgramFiles%\pd\bin\pd

or on a 64-bit system, this:

 set LANG=ja
 %ProgramFiles(x86)%\pd\bin\pd

Subject: [PD] more fun with translations

I just found out that transifex automatically syncs translated strings from
 one
Resource to another. Since Pd-extended has some differences in the
strings from Pd vanilla, we can take advantage of that very nice feature by
having separate Resources for pd-extended and
pure-data. I created that, and its already been synced.

I also discovered a few more strings in Pd-extended that were not
 translatable,
and fixed those. So the languages that were at 100% are now at 96%
 translated.
I think they are all Mac OS X-specific.

 Here's the new Pd-extended project:
 https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/puredata/resource/pd-extended/

And now that the very useful search plugin is included in Pd-extended, its
 easy
 to translate that as well:
 https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/puredata/resource/search-plugin/

Is it possible to translate comments of the help patches in 5.reference in a
 similar
 manner?

Not currently, but that is something I think we can do. I guess the
trickiest part is the file format. I suppose there could be a .po file
per-language-per-patch. I'd rather see all the translations embedded into
 the patch.

Re: [PD] Reading a specific image from [pix_buffer] and saving it using [pix_write]

Hi IOhanness,

Thanks for the advice.

the last stable version of Gem is 0.93.3, and since Gem has a slow release
cycle, this means that 0.92.3 is really old.

I updated and installed to GEM 0.93.3 for OSX.
Then tried to save YUV data in [pix_buffer] with the same patch, the
result was same.
This time I could get the message of saving jpeg file.

I also got a message of [pix_video] starting.

so it seems that the Gem is even choosing the wrong image type.

Re: [PD] Reading a specific image from [pix_buffer] and saving it using [pix_write]

2012-07-13 Thread Seiichiro MATSUMURA
Thanks Charles.

As you mentioned, YUV consists Y for Luma, U and V for the color
difference of from Luma to Blue and Red(chrominance), basically
describes colors based on brightness.
I could realize with Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YUV
It also seems 1 value for 2 pixels makes sense for weird saved jpeg file.

For converting YUV to RGB, the formula is necessary.
http://www.fourcc.org/fccyvrgb.php

So, I would like to know whether YUV data in buffer are automatically
recognized and converted to RGB data with this formula for saving a
jpeg file when save command to [pix_buffer] works. Otherwise, do we
have to use [pix_rgba] before putting data in [pix_buffer]?

Best,

Sei

iirc, in YUV you have a luminance layer (Y) and then the colors encoded
in a strange way, like 1 value for 2 pixels for the width in the U and V
layers. Well, something like that. Maybe it's a bug in the colorspace
conversion because you don't make it explicit ?

Re: [PD] Reading a specific image from [pix_buffer] and saving it using [pix_write]

2012-07-09 Thread Seiichiro MATSUMURA
Hi,

I try to do the similar thing, capturing from pix_video, saving a
specific frame of [pix_buffer] to jpg files. However, the color space
and the resolution of saved jpg file is changed. Even saving tiff is
the same result.
I know one of the ways is converting Gemlist from YUV to RGBA using
[pix_rgba] before inputing [pix_buffer_write], but it is told
CPU-consumptive.
So, is there any solutions to save YUV data in pix_buffer directly to
jpg file with keeping colorspace and resolution.
I am using Mac OS 10.7.4 and pd-extended 0.42.5.
Thanks in progress.

a framebuffer in openGL- and Gem-land usually means a canvas where
you draw to. [gemwindow] is a typical framebuffer, [gemframebuffer]
 (what's that name..?) as well.

[pix_write] will indeed read from this framebuffer.
you can specify where in the framebuffer it reads via the offset
 dimension parameters.

[pix_buffer], while being a buffer that holds frames, is NOT a
 framebuffer in this parlance.

you can use the [save foo.jpg 42( message to save a pix from the
[pix_buffer] to the disk. the last argument (42 in this case) denotes
the slot to read the image from.

Hi Hans,

Based on that guess, then the idea would be to make it use the translations
by default, then provide instructions for the more technical people to switch
 to English.

I see. That suggestion the other way round is reasonable.

You just demonstrated a simple yet effective way to force Pd in English on
any system: remove the translation files in the po/ folder, i.e. ja.msg, etc.

It sounds a very nice solution, simple and easy. I tested it on OSX
and it works quite fine, now.
Thank you.

Is this way also working on Windows?
Unfortunately I can't test this on Windows and Linux at here.
I hope they would work fine too eventually.

In addition, I finished checking all parts of Japanese UI on OSX and I

Now, I can run Pd-extended0.43.1.app with Japanese UI. (see attached pic.)

It means the default language is English and installing the other

I'm all for choice with the language of the app, but it seems to me that
is something that the OS should handle. So anyone who set their system
language to English will get Pd-extended in English. For those who want
some mix of languages, then there is no standard technique that I know
of, and how you do it varies on each OS. If someone wants to code this
 for Pd-extended, patches are welcome.

For the geeks, you can select the language easily when launching Pd from
the terminal. This is what I do for testing the language support:

 $ export LANG=en
 $ /usr/bin/pd-extended

 or on Mac OS X:

 $ /Applications/Pd-extended/Contents/Resources/bin/pd

You can see the supported languages in the po/ folder inside Pd.

2012-03-01 Thread Seiichiro MATSUMURA
Thank you for the precise instruction. I could trace this but could not make
Pd-extended0.43.app in the end.
I can run pd unix file in pd-extended/src folder and see ja.msg is
working partly, not all functions are working correctly like Bang
button object is missing, Vslider is missing, etc.
I need to check all the Japanese translated menu and indication in all
the properties windows.
Do I have to do any other steps for building Pd-extended0.43.app?

I already check INSTALL.txt in pd-extended folder and this article
but could not accomplish it.

I was updating pd-extended.git, so I threw in the new Japanese
translation :-). I'll be sure to update it one last time before the
final release, so you can test it in a real build.

 $ export LANG=en
 $ /usr/bin/pd-extended

  or on Mac OS X:

 $ /Applications/Pd-extended/Contents/Resources/bin/pd

You can see the supported languages in the po/ folder inside Pd.

However, it seems working automatic depends on system language of OSX, now.
I think it would be nice if users can select language mode in

many Japanese users (especially geeks) already get used to the general

Of course, Japanese interfaces is truly helpful for Japanese Pd newbies.

Hi,

Thank you for many people having curiosity to this Pd Recipe Book
even it is written in Japanese. I feel truly honored :)
All the contents including articles, interviews, diagrams, etc. are
officially controlled under copyrights of the author and the
publisher. So I am afraid I can not handle it only by myself, now.
If any English publishers officially give any offers of translation
for the publication, it is welcome. However, I know there are so many
excellent English texts about Pd.
