To anyone who has gotten pdp_glx to work on os x,

What did you have to install to get it going? I have run the latest auto-build
and although pdp_glx
object opens, when ever I try to get a window open I get the following error:

pdp_xdisplay_new: can't open display :0
pdp_glx: cant open display :0

I have tried this on 2 different G4s and one G5 with os 10.4.9. Any help would
be apreciated.
Thanks,
Alain

Thanks. You know even though the pdp_glx help file cleary states:

pdp_glx ouputs video in a window using the openGL extension on an X11
window system.

I think there should be more of an obvious statement for dummies like
me. I can now start to play around with this thing. By the way is
pdp_qt fully functional yet?

Thanks,

Re: [PD] call for PDP testing on Mac OS X

2007-05-06 Thread ydegoyon
hala,

you can try the classical -ltheora that is not in the Makefile
bacause for some obscure reason i was forced
to link statically with libtheora.a on linux to make it work.

you can also put the libtheora.a in /usr/local/lib
to keep the static linking.

saludos,
sevy

Quoting Hans-Christoph Steiner [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Yeah, there is something whacky going on with the PiDiP build. ./
 configure finds theora:

checking for ogg_stream_init in -logg... yes
checking for vorbis_analysis_init in -lvorbis... yes
checking for vorbis_encode_setup_init in -lvorbisenc... yes
checking for theora_encode_init in -ltheora... yes

It seems to build the theora stuff, but it doesn't link the theora
library. Maybe someone out there who has gotten this working on mac
 OS X could enlighten us?

Ok, I don't think there was any confusion. But any testing you are
willing to do would make the Pd-extended release that much better, so
you won't have to compile from scratch in the future :)

It sounds like pdp and pidip are not loaded. Did you see their
version messages in the Pd window? You can do the quick and dirty
way of loading them: just create an object called pdp and then
pidip. It'll load the library, then fail to create the object.
But then the libs will be loaded.

Hans, Marius,

Sorry, all I wanted to say was that it wasn't working in the extended builds
at that point and hadn't been for a long time. Recompiling PDP on my own
did it for me. Apologies for any confusion :) My libquicktime came from

Re: [PD] call for PDP testing on Mac OS X

2007-04-22 Thread bigswift
i had the best luck following teh directions on Sevy's site, the installers so
far have not worked for me.

instead of pdp_v4l, osx users should use pdp_ieee1394.
we need a usbcam object for OSX , macam seems to get it working for
iShenanigans etc..

finally, i gave up on pdp, pidip for OSX and installed ubuntu-ppc on old
powerbook and everything works

point me at rc and i will give it a shot on a clean mac here.

Re: [PD] call for PDP testing on Mac OS X

2007-04-22 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

That error message actually is a mistake and you can ignore it.
It'll be removed in the next release.

It sounds like pdp and pidip are not loaded. Did you see their
version messages in the Pd window? You can do the quick and dirty
way of loading them: just create an object called pdp and then
pidip. It'll load the library, then fail to create the object.
But then the libs will be loaded.

do about getting pdp_xv to work, I have no idea. I tried a bit, and
only succeeded in getting Pd to crash. [pdp_sdl] is built in there, but
doesn't seem to do anything but crash. Here are the messages I found:

 hi hans,
where should that pdp version be? in the nightly autobuilds?
btw. it seems there is an intel binary now? thanks for that.
but pdp did not work for me.
the first thing to solve would be the output window. which I don't see
 how to create?

I would like to get PDP and PiDiP working well on Mac OS X in the
upcoming release. I don't use PDP, so I don't know how to test it.
So I am calling on all of you to tell me what's broken.

PDP is now compiled with libSDL, so that might also give Mac OS X
  users a new output option.
