Re: [PD] [PD-announce] Camomile: An audio plugin that loads Pure Data patches

2016-07-21 Thread Thomas Grill
Dear Pierre,
thank you for Camomile, a tool that i was long looking for.
Two things:

- apparently, the xcode project file is missing. I have filed an issue on
github.

- For a project that i am working on, i need at least 20 channels of i/o. Where
would i start to change the maximum number of channels?
If you have the capacity to provide a 32 channel version for Mac, i would be
infinitely grateful.

many thanks for your work,
all the best, Thomas

Thanx for clarifying.

 >there are three (3!) externals that require 3rdparty libraries.
There are (on linux) 3 Deken pkgs that are not “self operational”.
This covers only past and near past.
Solving those 3 cases does not solve near future Deken pkgs?

Well my worries are this:
I made a abs that uses [some~] which calls 3thpty pthread.
I want the abs to be opened with all OS.
I`m using Deken as source of [some~] so in my abs I [declare] a folder where I
put:
some~.dll pthread.dll
some~.pd_darwin ? pthread ?
some~.l_i386? pthread ?
some~.pd_linux? pthread ?
And there, just work.
I know that I can do this with objects that DONT need pthread.
How do I handle 3th pty Libs if those *are not* in the Deken Pkg?

i think you misunderstood that (most likely because you are not using
linux).
the idea is, that anybody who installed "puredata" (the core Pd-vanilla
package distributed on Debian and derivatives), also has "pd-deken-apt"
installed (automatically).
there is nothing "super user" to that.

[PD] Pd-0.47-1 / [clone] - Audio Card Issues?

2016-07-21 Thread Ricky Graham
Hi list,

I’ve been working with 16 to 64 grain voices using [clone] in 0.47-1 on El
Capitan 10.11.6 with an RME FF400 (FireWire). At various points, my audio card
is losing sync and then drops out altogether. The card appears to be working
fine with Pd-Extended 0.43 / usual DAWs, etc. This appears to be an issue
unique to [clone] usage / 0.47-1, perhaps due to the maximum amount of voices,
although the overhead appears to be minimal.

Anyone else having similar issues with their audio interface and Pd-0.47-1 or
[clone]?

Cheers,

Ricky

Re: [PD] Machine learning and sound ?

2016-07-21 Thread James Bullock

Hi all,

To answer the OP’s question: yes it is possible to “do machine learning with
sound” and yes you can use ml.lib and Pd for that.

I would suggest using the upstream version of ml.lib, the version on the
Cycling74 GitHub is a fork. Here’s the upstream:
https://github.com/cmuartfab/ml-lib

One of the problems with ml.lib is the documentation is very poor, we are
addressing this, and soon there will be a full set of help files and possibly
some examples. For now, sending an object the “help” message, you might be able
to figure things out. Reading our NIME paper may also help:
https://nime2015.lsu.edu/proceedings/201/0201-paper.pdf

Machine learning is a very broad field, and in terms of “where to start” you
might want to look at classification problems such as “out of a set of N known
classes of sound, which one most closely matches sound X”. This is a
well-studied problem, and you might want to start with a paper like this one:
http://www.music.mcgill.ca/~ich/research/icmc00/icmc00.timbre.pdf

It would be a useful exercise to replicate the Fujinaga MacMillan experiment
(which did in fact originally use Pd) using ml.knn, or indeed their original
knn external, which is still available in the Pd svn.

Good luck!

Jamie

Please note that most applications of neural nets are non-realtime, e.g. not in

most likely the Tcl/Tk version is too old.
which version do you run (and which arch?)

you can find out by running the following in the tclprompt¹:
::pdwindow::post "tcl:$tcl_version tk:$tk_version"

gfdmrt

¹ the tclprompt has been removed from Pd-0.47, but you can download it
via deken :-)

afaict, Pd-0.47.app uses the OSX-bundled version of Tcl/Tk; if this is
also true for Pd-0.46, you could use that to run the test as well (iirc
Pd-0.46 still has the tclprompt)

Dear List,

I did a little bit of machine learning with neural network when I was in
