do you experience any real issue or do you just think that there's

Oh I forgot this step, sorry.  For Debian, I edit /etc/apt/sources.list
and duplicate lines starting "deb" with copies starting "deb-src"
instead.  Ubuntu maybe slightly different (perhaps it uses files in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/).

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

make a backup first, if you are unsure.  after editing, run

sudo apt update

to refresh the package cache, and retry the build-dep command.

[PD] error compiling Gem on ubuntu 17.10

2018-08-06 Thread Csaba Láng
Dear list,
i try to compile on a freshly installed system Gem from
https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem
Hopefully this is the latest version what is available online.

Anyway after congigure I have this output:

 used optional libraries:

  font-rendering : FTGL
 default font:

  image-support
use ImageMagick : no
use QuickTime: no
use AVFoundation : no
use TIFF : no
use JPEG : no
  moviefile-support
use PLUGINS : yes
use mpeg : no
use mpeg-3 : no
use QuickTime: no
use AVFoundation :
use aviplay : no
use gmerlin : no
  capture-support
use PLUGINS : yes
use v4l : no
use v4l2 : no
use ieee1394 : no
use DV : no
use Unicap : yes
use Video-for-WinDOS : no
use QuickTime: no
use AVFoundation : no

Now run make ...

I wuld gladly have all the options especially for pix_video to have a
choice (the real aim is to have videoPYLON get wrked on this system)

but make stops at this point:

*TextBase.h:38:12: fatal error: FTFont.h: No such file or directory #
include "FTFont.h"*
^~
compilation terminated.
What do I miss?

installed Gem with aptitude together with puredata cannot even create any
Gem related objects.

instead of doing an [append] for every new array,
[append] is done once and the resulting pointer is 're-used' everytime.

I agree. Removing the prompt to add an external to the user paths makes sense
in the context of [declare -path] searching user paths. Without this step,
we're back to the problem of "I installed an external, but I can't load it,
help." I know this prompt is loathed by some but it also keeps the amount of
"help me" email down in the meantime until 0.49 includes the [declare] update.

I just compiled from the source 0.93.3 (hope this is the latest as it is

I have a new consideration about this. Since Pd suggests the creation of a
documents folder, and since declare isn't working for that option yet (and
since miller is holding that fix for 0.49), it makes sense to me to keep
prompting the user to add the folder to the search paths because that's
what will help him best, as you'd actually need to include it in the search
path if you were were to use Pd default's suggestions. Advanced users can
still edit this for more complicated and different kind of setting.

most likely you've already "manually" added that same directory multiple

Hello!

Thanks for this Chris, Have yet to try out pd-ws but it might be a bit

It is basically the same but with no binary dependencies, and it only
supports one active websocket at a time.

Lovely!

xensynthcontrol.html is  just a bunch of high level stuff that was
easier to do with html javascript than patching up in pd ,

Yes, I understand. This is exactly the reason for pd-ws.

JAVA applets were the only cross
platform solution to sockets from browser to pd
as far as I knew. Will websockets last as long as JAVA applets did?

Java, like Flash, always felt like it was crowbarred into the browser.
My hunch is that websockets will be around for a long time. They have
wide support across all browsers and the people who maintain the browser
code wrote the websocket code, unlike Java & Flash.

If xensynthcontrol.html is built only for your personal use you could
also look at browser extensions. I believe it's possible to open native
socket connections (directly to e.g. [netreceive]) if your Javascript
code is running as an extension/add-on.

Cheers,

Chris.
