at the end of last year the austrian police wrote me a letter, asking
whether our association is still alive. and indeed we found that we (as
a club) hadn't had any real activity in the last 9 years or so, and
therefore we decided to terminate the association for good. (no need to
feel sorry. Pd~graz's raison d'être was to make Pd rule the world. this
mission is practically accomplished).

in any case, we are celebrating with a final concert.

the concert will be in two weeks(20.3; right that's pretty soon), at the
postgarage[1]. those of you who have been at the very 1st Pd~convention
will remember it fondly.

anybody who happens to be in the vicinity should of course come and
party with us.
if you are prepared to show your screen, there might even be an open mic
session.

[PD] [feature request] cloning array define?

2018-06-16 Thread Jaime Oliver La Rosa

Hello all,

Here is a somewhat half-baked feature request.

It would be great to be able to clone objects such as array.

something like:

[clone array foo-$1 16]

which would lead to 16 arrays called foo-0 through foo-15

I imagine this would be possible to do with other objects, but array is
certainly one that would work well and solve some patchwork.

Would this be possible?

best,

J

A simple test on Linux with JACK shows that Pd doesn't clip audio that

Other API may be different, and the driver may clip (or do other
dynamics processing) before sending to the hardware.

In the "A02.amplitude.pd" example it is claimed that:

"Amplitudes of audio signals can have any reasonable range, but when you output a
signal via the dac~ object, the samples should range between -1 and +1. Values out of
that range will be clipped."

Is that still true in current version (Pd-0.48-0)?

I tested with a less current version:

$ pd -version
Pd-0.47.1 ("") compiled for Debian (0.47.1-3) on 2016/11/28 at 20:56:10 UTC

If I were in your situation, I’d stick with a Thinkpad. They

on their hardware. Another good option is a Panasonic
Toughbook which are admittedly bulkier and expensive but you
can get one with a built-in handle so you look like you work
for the CIA/NSA and use it as a blunt-force protection device
(I’m sure Katja knows).

Examples of both can be found used with decent prices (US
vendor, but gives you an idea of institutional refurbished
market):

* Newegg refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad

* Newegg refurbished Panasonic Toughbook

As for audio interfaces, I agree with those that say stick
with a USB-compliant device. I am still using aRoland UA-25
which is from mid-2000s and is USB 1.0 compliant. It works
full stereo duplex with everything, included iOS, without
drivers etc. In fact, I bought a UA-25ex used for $100 as a
backup a coulee years ago.

Fancy stuff like MOTUs are really *nice* but far too reliant
on proprietary drivers. I believe USB 2.0 should have enough
bandwidth for 8 channel output. Unlike Firewire, we can be
pretty sure USB will be supported for the foreseeable future,
albeit through probably 10 different dongles/adapters. Plus,
you’ll know if you want to work with other Ohs in the future,
the device will probably keep working.

Dear list,

I'm looking to buy new laptop and a matching audio interface
for daily use + audio performance/programming (not video). I
would be interested to know what are the current trends
nowadays, and what experiences you have.

My current setup is:
- windows 10 (won't change)
- Lenovo X61s (I'm a bit of a fanboy for ibm/lenovo)
- RME multiface (still with pcmcia card)

I would be looking for a similar setup:
- a robust laptop where to run w10. The less weight the
better, even if it sacrifices some performance.
- which audio interfaces are used nowadays, compared with the
multiface? E.g. with at least 8 analog outlets (I don't need
that many inlets), and also a digital outlet. Also the less
weight and size the better - a half-case size such as the
multiface is quite convenient.
- the computer will be used for day-to-day activities:
office, notation (sibelius/finale), and Pd audio programming.
No games or too taxing environments, so some features such as
a high-power graphics card or the latest ssd disk should be
necessary.

Best regards,

Joao

Re: [PD] email phdho...@newblankets.org if you're interested/able to host Pd *Artists in Transit*

2017-02-01 Thread Jaime Oliver La Rosa

Hi Joe,

Thanks for this! Add Lima (and potentially Cusco and Arequipa) to your
list of hosts, and New York again of course after August.

And whoever is considering the next PdCon should consider this! If
you're not familiar with New Blankets, one of their programs is to
sponsor Pd Artists to travel to some of the host venues, so if you'd
like to be a host venue, then email back.

best,

J

On 01/27/2017 08:38 PM, Joe Deken wrote:

Are you a Pd "local leader" in some way for your location?

That may be a fairly vague question -- but the practical purpose for New
Blankets asking is this:

"Are you interested and able to host Pd *Artists-in-Transit* to visit your
area and the groups there which you are affiliated with?"

New Blankets is interested in continuing (and increasing!) its support of
Pd *Artists-in-Transit*
and their tours and activities, worldwide. Those tours, in ways that will
depend on the individual AIT and the local interests, might include any
and all of the following:

-- performance
-- public lectures and demonstrations
-- workshops and instruction (including tutorials for beginners)
-- "round workbench" sessions of sharing techniques among experts

As a practical note, the NB Artists in Transit have been a congenial bunch
that prefer couch surfing to fancy hotels, will eat pizza or whatever
you're serving, etc etc. Nothing fancy or expensive is envisioned -- the
bulk of NB AIT expenses in the past have been for travel worldwide.

-- (Please pardon the interruption if none of the above is not of interest
to you.) --

But if you are interested in hosting/co-ordinating visitors to your area
and with your local group,
your university, concert hall or what-have-you-to-offer -- please send a
quick e-mail reply to:

  -- pdho...@newblankets.org --

(You are welcome of course to copy the list or not, as you feel
appropriate for brainstorming. Tell your friends, too and invite them to
email pdho...@newblankets.org )

Once we have a quorum of replies, we'll share those. New Blankets hopes
to start
making a map, connecting the dots ... and hopefully be helping even more
of those terrific Pd Artists-in-Transit get out on the road and sharing Pd
art and lore.

In the grand scheme of things we hope that all of the micro local-elements
like patching circles and pd-weekends and AIT tours can work make the "big
show" PdCons even better (and more frequent) when they happen like
returning comets.

i guess one of the objects in their fails to create within reasonable
limits.
so i would do:
- disable rt (this will make the "signaling pd..." message disappear,
but the loading might still hang. I guess it is still worth trying
it out.
- enable "-verbose -stderr" to see what Pd is actually trying to do.
- get a list of all the objects used in the patch, and check whether
there's one in there that could block in the constructor.

This happens to certain patches and then I cannot open them again, it is
