[PD] [PdCon16] Performance Opportunity

2016-11-12 Thread Jaime Oliver
Hi all, if you are participating in PdCon or if you are only attending and
you’d like to have another performance opportunity consider joining Hans
Tammen’s Dark Circuits PdCon16~ Orchestra. You can sign up here
.

More info below:

#Dark Circuits PdCon16~ Orchestra

Are you using Pd to perform and wondered how it’ll sound if you’d played in a
massive orchestra of laptop or smartphone players? Then join us at PdCon16~ and
celebrate Pd’s 20th anniversary with a performance of the Dark Circuits
PdCon16~ Orchestra!

Using flashcards and hand signs, Hans Tammen creates large multi-movement
pieces with large ensembles of players of electronic instruments for over a
decade — whatever you play, join this workshop if you’re ready to show your
skills within a large orchestra to create a massive piece of electronic music!

###What to bring:

- your instrument, whatever it is: on a laptop or smartphone, playing samples,
doing synthesis or any other strategy you pursue to create sound - as long as
it’s done in Pd, it’s in.
- a means to control your volume: whether it is a fader on your mixer or
screen, or a volume pedal - I need to make sure that the sound is always
transparent, and individual voices come through.
- a long audio cable from your rig: there will be tables, a mixer and a sound
system, but we may not have enough cables to run audio from that many
performers to the mixer.

###Location:

NYU FAS, 24 Waverly Place, Room 220.

###Timeline:

Please note in order to take part in this, to have to do the workshop AND the
performance. This will be a fully rehearsed piece, and you can’t leave in
between!

11:30am-13:30pm: I explain the graphic score, and we experiment with the
instruments and sounds to find out what works best for the ensemble. Please be
on time for the setup!

14:30pm: Public performance of Dark Circuits PdCon16~ Orchestra. Invite your
friends, so they can brag later about it.

###Sign Up:

You can sign up here

Dear All,

I just wanted to provide an update on PdCon results.

We have now sent notifications to all papers and performances and most
proposals. The submissions that haven’t received an official reply are larger
installations as we are still securing an appropriate space to host them. We
will however be in touch shortly about them.

If you have not received any communication about a paper, performance, or

Hi all,

Anonymity is desirable but clearly not always feasible. No one will be
disqualified for not being anonymous.
Just do the best you can to follow the guidelines!

So, the paper proposal I'm about to send with collaborators is mostly
anonymous, but it refers to a github link where my secret idendity (and
theirs) is revealed. I think the repository is a relevant reference to the
work to be proposed, and that even if I hide it, some people closely
related to the community will still know about who's involved... anyway, if
you feel it should be hidden, I could do it, let me know.

Now, about the artistic proposals, are they supposed to be anonymous too? I
can see the anonymous issue being important for paper reviewing, if you
want the event to be more academic, but I don't think I've ever seen an
event where you need to hide who you are, and sometimes that's not
possible... so I'm just checking if this is really it.

For fixed-media pieces, would you want a link to the
soundcloud/someotherstreamingservice with the application and a d/l link to
the lossless coming later if accepted, or just the lossless straight up
with the application?

Dear Jaime,

I don't understand a point regarding the paper submission.
The Latex Template will be provided only for the final submission, right?
So the pdf we have to send has no standard template? I can write just one
page of standard latex article template?

Thank you.

2016-08-16 Thread Jaime Oliver
Dear Warren,

The idea is that the pdf document itself is anonymous, as there clearly is some
data that asks for biographic information.
It is also clear that in some cases it will be inevitable or at least not ideal
to make the application anonymous and in these cases we will ask reviewers to
be impartial.

Thanks for your question!

Hi all,

Curious about the Pd submission requirements. I see that Page 1 of the PDF
is to be anonymous, but do the application materials (Page 2) (links to
software, video demos, demonstration of artwork) need to be anonymous as
well? Should I avoid using my youtube/soundcloud channel and/or personal

Thanks!

Re: [PD] PdCon16 NYC Calls extended deadline?

2016-08-02 Thread Jaime Oliver
Hola Julián,

We are aware that the dates are a bit tight. In order to keep the results
announcement as early as possible we will try to stick to the deadlines.

In light of that, I would ask everyone to make their best effort to meet the
deadlines. Please consider that we are asking for an extended abstract and not
a full paper. Also, the submission system allows you to resubmit, so you can
upload your latest version, so if the deadline is in fact extended, you can
then upload a newer version.

All the best,

J

[PD] PdCon16 NYC Calls extended deadline?

2016-08-01 Thread Julián Villegas
Hi list,

Would it be possible to extend the deadline for submissions to PdCon16? as it
turns out August is rather a bad month for preparing something worth presenting
at the conference. Thanks for your consideration.

Cheers,

come to New York in November. Will you be giving selected authors the chance to
present online rather than in person?
