Wow, that seems like a good starting point to include those in Pd. You
could try making a PR, or Dan could check it out and steal from it as he
did from other forks already ;)

but i have to say, I misread and, for a minute, I imagined a tabbed Pd, with

Hi,    I thought I'd mention I have a pd mod I've been trying to maintain for a

If you are on a cool operating system like Linux, you can simply invert
your screen with
xcalib -invert -alter

that's because the background colour is not set at all (by Pd).
so it just uses the default, and you can override that.

what would 'tabbed preferences' be?

I hope it's not too hard to do this. At least in my intuition it doesn't
seem hard to set different colors in the preferences - seems to me you've
done much harder work before ;)

thanks

I thought you meant the 'src' folder that comes with the Pd application.

But I also got confused, as I thought 'tcl' files were there, but they're
not, they're in a separate 'tcl' folder.

And I actually already know you can edit at least the background color by
editing pd-gui.tcl, for instance, by adding something like this to the end
of the file.

option add *PatchWindow*Canvas.background #bb

I was having trouble, though, trying to find the other parameters to also
change font/cord colors and stuff. But I'm assuming now it ain't possible.

I also believed it was possible to just edit the code or write a plugin for
Vanilla because I saw these themes for Pd Extended
https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/8555/gui-objects-and-color-scheme -
which I tried but didn't work in Vanilla, of course.

not sure i understand what you mean.
if you have 'searched for "blue" or "black" in the src/ folder', you
would see that these hardcoded values are in C-files (all files in src/
are C-files, btw)
if you edit C-files, you need to recompile them in order to have an effect.

if the hardcoded values were on the GUI-side, we could always overwrite
them with a plugin. however, they are not.

the colours are hardcoded, so just do a search for "blue" or "black" in
the src/ folder.

[PD] how to edit PD's colors to make your own theme

2019-03-08 Thread Alexandre Torres Porres
Hi, I'm hoping to be able to change Pd's colors in the source code so I can
come up with a different theme, a dark one, maybe an inverted one.

So, how to change the color of background and objects/cords?

While we're at it, Purr Data has nice themes out of the box, I guess we
could use at least a GUI plugin for that, but I don't think I could do that
one.
