Re: How to clean hot-shoe flash contacts?
I've been using Craig Laboratory cleaners for 30 years. Every connector I mate is first cleaned with their RED contact cleaner formula, then lubed with their Blue contact preservative formula (or vice versa). Came with coarse plastic applicators for doing grody RCA connectors. Also used it on ANY (plain or gold) connectors in or on my cameras, computers, and automobiles. Except for forgotten batteries in various household and medical appliances, I never have any connectivity problems. Betcha Radio Shack still carries it. But no more than 10 cent bets, please. Re: PESO - In the Dungeon
The reason I shot downward is that I quite consciously wanted to get her phone, pen and gloves in the photo along with the newspaper. Other than the fact that she's a very attractive young lady, this was a bike messenger shot. She's standing by, reading the paper to kill time. We no longer use two-way radios (the Motorola bricks were ubiquitous) and pagers; everything is dispatched through smartphones these days. Pens and ( in this cooler weather) gloves are part of our equipment. Mailrooms are where we hang out when it gets cold (see the mail bins in the background?). A slice of messenger life... Oh yeah. The other reason I took the photo from that angle: I was standing and she was sitting. ;-) Thanks for the comment! And thanks to all who looked! FS Thursday
Sorry I'm a bit early for Friday but I've been procrastinating for a few weeks and I need to free up some cash to help my budget for a race I'm doing in January. I've been spending way too much on equipment and my poor old piggy bank has gone to the abattoir. I've put the list of gear on a set of web pages with photos. It's breaking my heart to sell this stuff but I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it and I know it'll go to good homes here. http://www.multi.net.nz/lens-sale/ (Despite the URL it's not all lenses) I'm not very sure of my prices as some of this stuff doesn't come up for sale often; if you think I'm way out then make me an offer, but higher offers will likely get priority. I take Paypal. I will send by International Economy Courier which is tracked, but I don't put much faith in the tracking as the last parcel I sent was only tracked as far as US Customs. The freight prices quoted won't cover the full cost but I don't want to scare you away :) In addition to that list I have two more Pentax 35mm lenses which I'm going to have professionally cleaned before offering. If you're interested in them let me know: SMCP 135mm f/2.5 FA*400mm f/5.6 I also have a kit of Pentax 6x7 stuff so let me know if you're looking for anything. I haven't listed it yet because I'm considering selling it locally as some items would be expensive to freight overseas. Re: The moth - I desperately want to kick somebody in the nuts
Yeah, someone *should* care...but I don't expect anybody does. You could always put the lens on eBay with full disclosure at, say, 65% of expected price for a mothless one, and see if anyone bites. You'd be surprised. Never used the Sigma 20mm. Did own the 24mm version for a while, which I used for concert shooting. I sold it to Igor on this list, who I believe used it for baby shooting :-) Looking forward to your comparison pics. I think you should call your e-mails on this subject The Mothlens Prophecies. Cheers, —M. \/\/o/\/\ -- http://WorldOfMiserere.com http://EnticingTheLight.com A Quest for Photographic Enlightenment On 13 November 2012 04:58, Krisjanis Linkevics krisjanis.linkev...@exigenservices.com wrote: So I opened the FA135 up last night. On the outside it looked like Pentax service had never even gone inside. On the inside - sure they had been there. I bought the lens new from the local dealer around 2002, it was the last one in stock here but it was still new and from the dealer. Somebody had tried to force the back element open with the wrong instrument, markings on the barrel would suggest they failed. Also the moth stuff inside. Removed the aperture thingies only to find one of the biggest screws in there was badly damaged by somebody with background in changing wheels, not servicing fine instruments. Jackass, Philips power drivers should never ever be used on JIS screws. Aperture spring being glued in place and not swapped out for a new one is a minor nitpick in comparison. Didn't want to take it apart completely - helicoids and all - so I tried to unscrew the rear element with a properly softened large area of contact tool (just dumb oversized pliers with rubber pads) and it worked. So I removed the empty pupal case (no sight of moth itself) and all the debris. Here's a picture for those of you who got this far: http://foto.ri-ki.lv/details.php?image_id=104 Properly cleaning the lens would require total disassembly and even then I don't know if it would be any good. Those monsters weave their cocoons and strands of that weave are between elements even further inside the lens. Even if I could open it up that far I don't know if I could completely remove everything. So that's it probably for this lens. I will test it against my other sample but there is no real reason for me to use it anyway when I have the other one. I don't see a good way to clean it so well that there is no sign of the moth ever being there so it can't be sold either. I might go through the adventure of disassembling it completely, cleaning it and putting it all together but I don't see that happening before the kids grow up :) Pentax should probably know about the sad state of service in Europe but I don't see a way to get this information to anybody who cares. If service at Pentax authorized service centers takes half a year and is performed by idiots who only make things worse, somebody should care, no? I really like that image, Frank. Is Long Branch the name of the line, a section of the city, a street, or what? WTB or trade
Hi! I'm looking for Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.5 (not the modern OS HSM version, but the older one). I'm willing either to buy it or to trade it for my DA* 16-50/2.8. In the case of trade some money would have to come along with the Sigma lens. Thanks. That's really nice, Frank. The color is rich, light is nice, good composition, and good catch on the rain. K-01 shutter sound? (was Re: FYI - Fiscal Cliff for K-01 prices)
My interest is rising. Does anyone have a K-01 and a K-5 and can compare the shutter sound? Is the K-01 quiet?
