GESO: VIVITAR Series 1
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a Vivitar Series 1 70-210/2.8-4 in mint condition for a mere R350 (about $30). I tried it out during the dismal (weather wise) w/e we had at Crystal Springs. I have ordered a x4 dioptre for 1:1 macros. https://www.flickr.com/photos/wisselstroom/sets/72157648823082889/ Alan C --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Dad, 1943
This picture was taken by a U.S. Army Air Forces photographer at Turner Field, Georgia in 1943. My dad was a photographer at that base and a fellow worker shot this pic of him on 8x10 film. I have an original contact print on fiber paper. It’s in good shape with just a few cracks and specs here and there. I had tried scanning it once before but was unhappy with the results so I did it again today. It has a broad tonal range so it’s a bit tricky. Much happier with this scan. Dad was the kindest man I’ve ever known. Fortunately, he was too old for combat in 1943 so he worked as a photographer, first at Turner Field and later at the Pentagon. He probably wouldn’t have mad a very good killer, but he was an excellent photographer and artist. While at Turner Field he painted a huge mural in the chapel. His murals once decorated a number of Chicago residences and buildings, including the lobby of the long-ago-demolished Edgewater Beach Hotel. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=17903100size=lg -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: Paul Stenquist pnstenqu...@comcast.net Subject: Dad, 1943 This picture was taken by a U.S. Re: Keeping photos on an external drive
You also need an offsite strategy in case the Big Bad Wolf blows your house down. You could shuffle a couple of backup drives between home and work once a week, but this relies on you having the discipline to do it, and has the weakness that at some point both backups are in the same place for a day, and therefore a temptation for the BBW. Ah, you take the second drive to the backup location first so you've still got the files on your computers in the primary location. Or you could get some cloud storage and let your data trickle-feed up to there. If you have cloud storage then you don't need your backup external drive. You just need to think about how well and how long cloud services will look after your data. I've already lost a service that told me it would look after notes for ever. I managed to download everything before it went away, but it was a near miss.
