Quoting Ann Sanfedele : Got it ... so the frame is 1400 x 700 ... That would mean I could also submit a photo that is 1200 x 600, or 1200 x 700 yes? or even 1000 x 600 (one person's panorama not the same proportions as another's, agreed? ) Well, not if the 2:1 or greater aspect ratio is used. I know that's arbitrary but the problem is deciding on what's a pano and what's not. The standard output from a Pentax DSLR is 1.5:1 and most people would not recognise that as pano format, so I thought a 2:1 aspect ratio or greater would be a reasonable definition. Happy to revise that if people think otherwise. -- Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://lyons-ryan.org/southernlight/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Question on large format
Macro is almost impossible due to extremely limited depth of field. If you stick to flat objects you might have some success, but with the bellows extended a great deal, you will have to calculate reprocity failure to get correct exposures. Large format lends itself best to things like portraiture and landscape photography. Focusing on a ground glass screen isn’t horribly difficult if the scene is bright and you have a good black sheet with which you can cover your head and the focusing screen. Although with that wide angle lens it might be a little tough. I have a 127mm 3.5 lens on my 4x5 speed graphic and focusing can be somewhat difficult in all but the best circumstances. Re: Question on large format
On 3/4/2015 8:53 AM, Bulent Celasun wrote: I may be able to get a 4x5" camera with a 90mm f/8 lens. Price aside (which is another big question mark), I have questions. First, the reasoning: I like macro photography most. I am getting increasingly more able to spend time on photography. I like spending "hours" to get one single beautiful image. I can develop and scan film. I can get a drum scan occasionally if needed. I can make contact prints. (My enlarger supports up to 6x8 cm film). Questions: - How difficult is focusing using the 90 mm f/8 lens? Focusing on the ground glass isn't that difficult, in good light anyway. Large format is a slow working process and even slightly missed focus isn't noticable except in very large, (and that's measured in feet, or meters, not inches or centimeters), sized prints. That's part of the joy of large format photography, if it looks sharp on the ground glass a contact print will look just as sharp. - How difficult is it to find proper film? Well stocked Camera stores will have large format film, (finding a photo store might be difficult unless you're near a big city), or you can order it from Freestile Photo http://www.freestylephoto.biz/ B&H or Adorama, you can also check Amazon for deals. - Any idea about the cost of a single exposure (film only)? Rule of thumb which is probably still in effect, one sheet of 4x5 costs about the same of the same film in 24 exposure 35mm. Less if you buy the sheets in large quantities. Freestyle has their bargain brand for about a dollar or less per sheet, but, OK I won't say you get what you pay for, sometimes you get a lot more or a lot less, but... - Further comments? I haven't used 4x5 in years, it's exacting work, and except for camera movements, a 4x5 enlargement made at any reasonable size is going to be indistinguishable from one made with on 6x7, (and even then that's what a roll film back for the 4x5 will give you(. Still you'll get to play with lots of interesting equipment and you can adapt almost any lens ever made, for a reasonably close format or larger, with almost zero penalty. Plus the cameras are simple enough that you can even contemplate making one yourself. Actually there was the slimmest line on the right histogram boarder and in checking the image, I found a small number of red smatterings, all of which were in the clouds. A bit far right, a slightly larger few drops in the center area and some small speckles on the left. I found more than enough detail in the clouds to please me. I'll confirm again here that the #2 image is a thin shadow darker. You've nudged me back from trusting an old person's instinctive sense to one of actually utilizing the available technology. My only comment would be to look at the histogram of the original file and see if the peaks run off the right side (blown-out highlights). If there is detail there, I would preserve it. It would make a very good image into a great one, IMHO. I like to have the histogram turned on in my Preview image so I can see it right when I chimp the shot. Pentax is thoughtful to also have the ability to turn on the "blinkies" on your LCD to show over-exposed pixels, which can be handy if you don't want to mess with the histogram. Re: PESO x2 - Sunday in the office
Thanks for noticing that sparkle, Ann. I was wondering if it would bother anyone. It's one of many hair clips Aly used to create her messy updo. I'll spot that out. Thank you! Question on large format
I may be able to get a 4x5" camera with a 90mm f/8 lens. - How difficult is it to find proper film? - Any idea about the cost of a single exposure (film only)? - Further comments? Peso-Redwing
More like, disheveled Redwing. No back story, just...because. Suffers a bit from being on the edge of the lens' reach. Comments?
