Ricoh imaging website redesgned into a hot mess.

2015-09-05 Thread P.J. Alling
I just visited the Ricoh imaging web site and it's been redesigned for
the second time recently, and it seems to be even more difficult to
navigate than before. Not to mention that they went live with large
portions of it unfinished. This is just stupid PR.

However that's not the most salient issue. The 43mm limited seems to be
gone from the lens lineup. That could be due to the disorder at the web
site* or it could be Ricoh has decided to drop it from the line, which
also seems to be a mistake given the new ff DSLR's impending arrival.

*It's still listed for sale at the Pentax web store, which seems to have
been completely divorced from Ricoh imaging, and is much better
organized. So at least Ricoh seems to still be interested in making
money on camera gear.

Re: PESO - Noontide

2015-09-05 Thread Mark C

Thanks, Bulent!

I have been pursuing this project on and off for over a decade, and
since I started it with film I'm continuing it with film. I find that
the woods in broad daylight have that dreamy quality at times. In the
summertime the woods are just shades of black, white and green - easily
transcribed to B&W film - so I lean towards that and develop myself. I
have also used a XI green filter with good result with mono film.

I don't know about color negative film. I shoot a good bit of it in the
fall in the 6x7 but just do straight exposures, no pushing or pulling.
At that time of year I am more interested in capturing the colors in the
the scene. In the summer it is more about the tonality as the color is
all just green.

For me it is very much about the journey and not about the destination -
or maybe to say, about the process and not the results. I find learning
- speculation, experimentation, affirmation of expectations or utter
total surprises - to be pleasurable, regardless of the result.

Do you think I can use monochrome film,
expose for the shadows and develop for the highlights?
I have the chemicals and the curiosity!
Do I need more?

The color path sounds easier as I can overexpose a few stops
and do my tricks (if needed) during post processing.
The film will be processed by a local lab, of course...

Or should I concentrate on the journey rather than the destination?

Re: PESO - Mr. Dickey Throws a K

2015-09-05 Thread John

I think the lens you had provided you with the best effect considering
where you were seated. The best seats for enjoying the game are not
necessarily the best seats for photographing the game action.

To make most effective use of a long lens photographing baseball, you
need to be seated where you can shoot down the line from first to second.

You also got the essential element for a good baseball photo; you caught
the ball in the air - which you likely wouldn't have done with a long lens.

On 9/4/2015 10:29 PM, Knarf wrote:

Free beer.

To be more accurate, "beer that someone else paid for". Whatever, I
liked it.

Didn't bring a long lens, so with the kit zoom I'm okay with this
photo. Here's ace knuckleballer R.A. Dickey throwing a strike:

http://knarfdummyblog.blogspot.ca/2015/09/mr-dickey-throws-k.html?m=1

On a baseball scorecard a strike out is marked "K", and this pitch
was an inning-ending strike, hence the title.

Jays won. Maintained their lead over the hated Yankees. I got free
beer.

It was a good night.

Cheers,

Re: PESO - Noontide

2015-09-05 Thread Bulent Celasun
Mark,

I understand that you are aiming high.
Your image has a dreamy quality about it which is quite inviting...

I wish I could use my 105mm sometime soon...
I was thinking about using color negative film.

Saturday morning, I shot a solar transit of the International Space

start at the right time. The path on the earth where transit is
visible is about 7 km wide, so it's definitely a "right place, right
time" kind of shot.

In the afternoon, my wife hosted a training event at our place for
dock-diving dogs.

(That's not my wife pictured--this woman, Susan, drove at least a
couple of hours, and it was the first "public" event for her dog.)

Didn't bring a long lens, so with the kit zoom I'm okay with this photo. Here's
ace knuckleballer R.A. Dickey throwing a strike:

On a baseball scorecard a strike out is marked "K", and this pitch was an
inning-ending strike, hence the title.

Jays won. Maintained their lead over the hated Yankees. I got free beer.

It was a good night.
