replacement lens hood for 16-50
Larry, I bought one of the 67mm Snap On Lens Hoods for my Pentax A 35-105 f3.5 zoom - not supplied by the evil bay seller. 70% functional as I think it does not protect the lens from extraneous light coming from the sides May be good for wider lenses say 10-20 mm. I miss the CPL Filter slot and the fact I cannot reverse mount the lens hood on the lens. So I made my own lens hood from shoe insole lining foam. Can be reverse mounted as it is a simple friction fit. Here in Bangalore these insoles cost some 20 cents a pair. But I have seen the same sheets in Michael's in San Mateo. Use the online template to print out the 16-50 lens hood. Regards. Re: New FF rumors (with commentary)
In the first one, it looks like the Graphic camera might have a teeny-tiny bit of tilt with the bottom of the front standard pushed out. But it also looks like he's actually taking the photo with a DSLR he's got perched on top of the Graphic, and that DSLR has a Lensbaby mounted. On 10/19/2015 4:12 AM, Larry Colen wrote: Godfrey DiGiorgi wrote: Yes. The Graflex Speed Graphic 4x5 I used at the Photo Staff when I was in high school had a typical Wollensak Raptor 135mm f/4.7 lens, about the EFoV equivalent of a 35 or 40 mm lens on a 35mm FF camera. One of the challenges was getting the focus and focus zone right because you had so little DoF to work with. With the lens wide open (to get enough shutter speed for basketball) and the focus set to 15' (a typical basketball shot distance at the basket), you had about three and a half feet of DoF total. In 35mm with the Nikon F, that would take a 35mm f/1 lens, wide open, at the same focus distance. I certainly didn't have any 35mm f/1 lenses in my bag in 1971… :-) Interesting. Here are a couple of the shots that gave me pause, where the plane of focus seemed almost more geometrical then optical: http://i2.wp.com/roadsandkingdoms.com/uploads/2013/09/1200w_hor-talagante.jpg?w=2048&quality=75&strip=all http://i1.wp.com/roadsandkingdoms.com/uploads/2013/09/1200-mike-and-david.jpg?w=2048&quality=75&strip=all http://www.davidburnett.com/gallery.html?gallery=Big%20Camera#/15 http://www.davidburnett.com/gallery.html?gallery=Big%20Camera#/1 http://www.davidburnett.com/gallery.html?gallery=Big%20Camera#/14 http://www.davidburnett.com/gallery.html?gallery=Big%20Camera#/11 http://www.davidburnett.com/gallery.html?gallery=Big%20Camera#/12 So you can see the dynamics of format influence are very profound. Just sticking a lot of megapixels onto a tiny chip wafer does not net a large format camera view of the world. For my needs with a 35mm FF format camera, 24 MPixels are enough … More is occasionally nice, but mostly unnecessary. And no 35mm FF format camera supplants the Hasselblad 500 or SWC in terms of overall image dynamics … they're just too different. In theory, with something like the Lytro you could recreate a lot of the feel in post processing. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. Re: replacement lens hood for 16-50
Not that one in particular on that lens, but I'm using a similar design on my A 24mm f2.8. It works, but it's much easier to pop off accidentally than either a bayonet or screw in hood. Re: OT: A question about Lightroom/Photoshop CC and plug-ins
With the stand-alone versions, you were allowed to install it on as many computers as you wanted, but you could only have it "active" on two computers and you could only be using one copy at a time. If you wanted it active on a third computer, you had to DE-activate it on one of the existing computers. I had CS5 on both my "desktop" & a laptop. I used it on the laptop when I needed it while traveling and used the desktop version at home. I installed the upgrade to CS6 extended on my "desktop" (the computer I built as a dedicated Photoshop machine), but not on my laptop. I don't think the laptop will run it well enough. I'll have to get a newer, more powerful laptop; one that will allow more than a maximum of 4GB RAM before it will run CS6. On 10/18/2015 4:25 PM, Darren Addy wrote: Thanks for the input, everyone. John S. said: "If you're installing PhotoshopCC on the same computer you used for PhotoshopCSx, you might not even have to reinstall them." So how many computers can I install a single license on? Would it be possible to have it on my work computer (currently running CS5) AND my home computer? I need to get a power supply for my home computer. It's been so long since I've used it that I don't recall what versions I have on there. I believe I have Lightroom 3 installed on it but have yet to actually use Lightroom. Pretty sure I have Photoshop on there also and think it may be the same licence/copy that I am using at work. AFAIK, the Creative Cloud software is resident on your computer just like the older versions were. The only difference is they check in with Adobe periodically to see if you've paid the rent on time and they might not ask your permission before installing upgrades. As long as you pay the rent, they should continue to work, last week's Lightroom upgrade debacle notwithstanding. The funny thing is, that if they changed the terms of cc just a little bit, I'd happily jump on board. I'm already paying nearly that much in yearly updates by buying a new version once a year. Rather than $10 a month for everything, I'd be happy to buy stuff outright, and pay $5 a month for ongoing upgrades to lightroom. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. It seems that the plane of focus isn't perpendicular with axis of the view. In other words that not everything in focus is the same distance from the camera. That could be a trick of perspective. Seems to me you should pick up a Speed Graphic 4x5 and explore a new realm of photography. :-) I can't even afford to spend what I already do on gear, I don't need avenues to spend money, or for that matter time, on. If I did have that money, there are a lot of other things I need first. So you can see the dynamics of format influence are very profound. I've used two Lytros … the original and an Ilium. I couldn't get anything that looks remotely like a Hasselblad image out of them. Here are three SWC images: https://flic.kr/p/hGKSHA https://flic.kr/p/f8GKsf https://flic.kr/p/eUTMeB Note that I said "in theory", not "in practice". There are a lot of really cool things that could be done with something like the lytro, not the least of which is modifying the performance characteristics of the lens. If they can change the field of focus, they could also do focus stacking, or for that matter bokeh stacking digitally and either increase or decrease the depth of field. Similarly, having the depth information in the file, they could also use the file to create three dimensional maps, at least of what is visible to the camera. Combine that with a google street view car and you'd get good, accurate 3-d models of the areas surrounding city streets. The Lytro concept is interesting but doesn't interest me much—it seemed much more useful for moving images and images to be displayed electronically than for anything I do, which is print. That's why I didn't buy one. Light field photography is intriguing, but what Lytro does with it isn't very interesting. The Light L16 looks a lot more interesting for what I want … A relatively small camera that can make excellent prints in the simplest way possible, more like a Polaroid SX-70 than anything else. It will be interesting to see just how excellent the prints it can make are. The ergonomics look abysmal as well. But, time will tell. Re: PESO - 'Bunchberry'
Ken, I like the subject. I see this was in the spring, I wonder if I saw these in my area & passed them by. Love the greens but then I wondered how it would be in B&W. Then I thought about a tighter crop. Oh well only good photos arouse this sort of speculation. So nice work. But his cameras aren't really vintage, he's talking about maybe 5 to 7 year old Nikons. They look like modern Nikons. Re: what do you do with cameras you cannot sell
I feel your pain. My *ist-D has a few issues, so it would sell for maybe $25 if I could find someone who wanted it. It's like the Pentax H3, I bought one a few years ago to get the lens, (a SMC Takumar 35mm f3.5), it was like getting a bargain on the lens because no one wanted the camera shaped lens cap. I would have had to pay considerably more for the lens alone. So I guess my advice is really boils down to very bad advice, put a desirable Nikon lens on it, and expect about half what the lens alone is worth, for the camera and lens. Re: what do you do with cameras you cannot sell
Some of the same ideas here, as in Alan's link: http://content.photojojo.com/inspiration/photo-projects/upcycle-vintage-gear/ You can also search Etsy to find clever things done with SLR bodies, like making USB charging stations out of them, etc. If you look around you may find schools that are getting back into teaching how to shoot/develop film (Yep, things that are "cool" are definitely circular) and may accept donations. Just make sure it isn't some scum who is pretending to take them for that purpose just to get free SLRs and lenses. Here's the best way: From the FILE menu choose SCRIPTS and from that sub-menu choose STATISTICS. You'll get a dialog box in which you can choose the files you want (picking them individually, targeting an entire directory or using files you have open); then use the drop-down list in that dialog to choose the way you want to combine them "Mean" and "Median" are usually the best choices. Click OK and Photoshop does the rest. I used this technique for several shots I took in Devon this past summer: http://www.robertstech.com/temp/7df02413-16.jpg http://www.robertstech.com/temp/7df02417-23.jpg -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: New FF rumors (with commentary)
Godfrey DiGiorgi wrote: Yes. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
