Re: How to do the "edge" in LR?

2016-09-03 Thread Bruce Walker
Igor, simply put: curves _cannot_ do what you want to do. In image
processing terms, curves is a simple one-to-one pixel mapping
function. One level in, a mapped (lookup table) out.

What you want to do (edge detect) involves nearby neighbor pixels, so
it's a many-to-one function. Convolution is one technique that does
this, and Photoshop provides you a direct way to specify a custom
kernel (up to 5x5, see Filters- > Other -> Custom).

You can also do this in free packages such as Imagemagick. Export your
image to TIFF, process it externally and reimport it.

Here's some reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel_(image_processing)

Easiest way to do that in LR is to use the "Edit in Photoshop" command.

LR is designed to handle photographic adjustments, where that's really a

PESO: RUF Porsche

2016-09-03 Thread Paul Stenquist
I shot a 1978 RUF Porsche at dawn this morning. It's the third Ruf automobile
ever produced and is said to have been driven by Alois Porsche Jr. Based on the
930, this was the first complete model from Ruf Automobile GmbH. Some of what’s
seen here, the rear spoiler for example, was modified for racing. The current
owner purchased it more than 20 years ago when it was considered nothing more
than a well worn track car. Now it’s extremely valuable, as one might expect. A
fun shoot in perfect conditions.

How to do the "edge" in LR?

2016-09-03 Thread Igor PDML-StR

How can convert a photo in LR to get only the edges of all objects?

I've asked this question about 2.5 years ago here, and Bruce and Jostein
have offered a couple of ways to do that in PS.
I 've been trying to achieve this effect in LR by playing with the tone
curve, but I cannot so far.

In essence, I am trying to get this type of image where only edges are
visible:

http://42graphy.komkon.org/swing/ch-2008/1-selected/IMGP4530_1.html

I've got close to that by essentially bringing the entire curve down, with
only a spike in the mid-range. That highlights some edges, but

(1) not all of them and (2) it highlights some non-edge areas.

I am starting to think it might not be possible in LR...
Any ideas?

Several months back, on the way from hither to yon, I passed the Google
Street View car. I've been checking every once in a while ever since to
see if it got posted. Finally found it.

That's me in my little silver station wagon. Almost as good as a selfie.

Photo.net new version withdrawn for repairs

The old one is back up.

I had commented on the beta months ago to gl...@photo.net, who is still
apparently the contact person (I sent him another message and got a reply).

Indeed.
You may also remember the outbreaks of canine and/or phocine distemper among
seals in the North Sea since about 1990. Culling the populations is one way to
keep the rest of them healthy.

Re: PESO - Parkscape

2016-09-03 Thread Alan C

Marco, I'm late on this.

As others have said, it's a fine image. There is more going on than
initially meets the eye. For example, that old guy in the left background!
The Weimie too - we had one for 12 years.
