Re: Bay Area meetup with the Coyle's
My theory was that someone would bring them south and someone else would bring them back north. We need to find out where specifically they will be. John, could you repost phone numbers? We may want to consider a three bridge tour hitting both Berkeley and the north bay. Re: Bay Area meetup with the Coyle's
John's idea sounds like a plan to me - Muir Woods etc. on Friday, and if we can be picked up at 501 Hillside Boulevard, South San Francisco at, say, 10.30-11.00, or whatever time after that is practical, we'd be more than ready! Since you won't want to be driving back in the rush-hour traffic (which we saw today from the bus from Santa Barbara!) you may want to finish up about 3.30-4.00 - up to you guys? Re: Bay Area meetup with the Coyle's
I agree with you John: given current traffic in the SF Bay Area, getting back and forth from SC to SF twice in one day for more than one carload of people is likely impossible. My time is going to be quite limited over the next two-four days due to other commitments (plus, I've been down with a serious cold the past four days). I'm likely up for, at most, lunch, coffee, or dinner given a specific time that i can get there, if it fits. So I'll let you all figure out the tour and events, and will try to intersect when the opportunity arises. Re: Crowdsourcing marathon photography
About time. It's the same here. The runners have been getting screwed for years & the prices are even higher in the digital age than they were in the film days. Don't know about the photographers. Can't imagine why there is so much fuss about copyrights of crappy snapshots (as you put it) which have no particular artistic value. Alan C -Original Message- From: Mark Roberts Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2016 10:25 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Crowdsourcing marathon photography http://www.businessinsider.com/flashframe-race-photography-coming-to-new-york-city-marathon-2016-11 Interesting article from Businessinsider.com on photographing marathons. At first I thought it was nothing more than yet another way to screw professional photographers by replacing them with "crowsourced" amateurs paid far less. But it seems that they guys who shoot marathons were already getting screwed: Losing copyright to their own images and being paid by the hour instead of on the basis of how many of their images sell (which is a fairly good measure of how good their photos are — I've run a bunch of marathons and I can tell you a lot of the shots I was offered were crappy). Apparently some of the photogs who worked for the "official" photo companies are switching over to this new company because they make more money and retain copyright. -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

OK, lets do this Friday. I may be spending tomorrow night in your neighborhood, but tomorrow is going to be a very long day, so I'm not likely to be up at the crack of dawn. Crowdsourcing marathon photography
http://www.businessinsider.com/flashframe-race-photography-coming-to-new-york-city-marathon-2016-11 Interesting article from Businessinsider.com on photographing marathons. At first I thought it was nothing more than yet another way to screw professional photographers by replacing them with "crowsourced" amateurs paid far less. But it seems that they guys who shoot marathons were already getting screwed: Losing copyright to their own images and being paid by the hour instead of on the basis of how many of their images sell (which is a fairly good measure of how good their photos are I've run a bunch of marathons and I can tell you a lot of the shots I was offered were crappy).
