Re: PESO - Down In Indiana

Great sky.

I usually love your shots, it's strange to me to say I have some
quibbles. Something about the placement of the barn, re fence and
passing truck isn't pleasing to me. (Too many focal points? Not sure.)

I would have walked closer to the fence to leave it out. (I'd say crop
it, but don't think it can be done now. At least not without cloning.)

Take with a grain of salt, Marnie aka Doe :-)

Re: GESO - Old Las Vegas

2017-06-30 Thread Marnie (aka Doe)

Heheheheheh.

Thanks, Dan. I figured it wasn't a great GESO, but still managed to
capture the "feel" of the place. The newer casinos are a bit classier,
and a whole lot bigger, but not really less flashy. I don't gamble, so I
just enjoyed the lights.

BUT... the two cowboys in the GESO? They were just people. They were
various street vendors in several blocks of the Fremont Experience. But
those guys were just guys. So I asked to take their picture and they
wanted money and I didn't want to pay. I think I talked them down to a
buck. They put on face paint and those costumes and go out on weekends
to make money.

They said to me when I didn't want to pay them, non-celebrities for a
photo, "This is Vegas. Everything costs."

That's a stunning image, Paul!

I like the crispness of the front part of the image, and I do not notice
any "practical" noise there.

But what nudged me to respond here is some thoughts about the background.
The noise on the green in the background distracts a bit.
I was wondering if some sort of mask (on the background, maybe chosen
with the magic wand in PS) +smoothing/denoising, or what I would call
"soaping it" (to have less detail), or even "defocusing" it would produce
a better background.
I've had some photos where I was considering and trying some similar
treatment of the background, - with a different level of success.
