Re: OT - Migrating Win10 to a new boot drive
I finally got around to installing the SSD yesterday - the migration was much easier than I expected. I just cloned the existing HDD to the SSD and the cloning program adjusted the main partition's size to account for the different, something it's documentation said it could not guarantee would happen. After I had a clone of the HDD I booted off recovery media and used the diskpart utility to change the drive letters to make the SSD drive C and the old HDD drive E. Rebooted, put the SSD above the HDD in the boot device order, and it worked fine. Wiped the old HDD and now have that as data storage. I looked at two software packages - AOMEI and EaseUS ToDo (which is the one I used). Both indicated that you needed the paid version of their software to make the SSD bootable but renaming the drives worked.. My only disappointment is that the Thinkpad x220 msata port is only SATA II, so its limited to only 300mb/s. Lots of incorrect infon that on the web - the laptop has 2 SATA III channels, one going to the main drive bay and the other to the docking station. The msata port has only Sata II. Odd design decision, IMO. At any rate - its much faster than the old drive and the extra space will come in handy. Re: Lens hood for Viviter S1 600mm Solid Cat.
107mm is about right for maximum outside diameter, the original soft plastic push on lens cap is labeled 106mm. However the metal of the front filter ring is quite thick something like 2mm maybe 3/16 inch thick. It's possible to get a 95mm screw in lens hood from China for a pretty reasonable price, but I think the filter ring is closer 101mm which used to be a standard size, (approximately 4" diameter), which used to be a standard size but I haven't been able to find anything that size for several years. One of the problems is a step down ring from 105mm to 95mm is twice as expensive as the hood. I expect that a step up/down ring from from 101 to 95 to be in the same ballpark even if I could find one. Re: Lens hood for Viviter S1 600mm Solid Cat.
I appreciate the advice, but I haven't needed to do such fine measurement since I stopped rebuilding air cooled VW engines, some would argue that it wasn't necessary even then, but some are idiots. I'm really hoping that someone on the list just has this information hidden away somewhere, because I just can't justify buying a measuring device for a single purpose, and in this particular case Google is not my friend. On 7/31/2017 8:59 PM, Paul Stenquist wrote: A vernier caliper can achieve a measurement of the inside diameter accurate to a tenth of a mm or better. It's an inexpensive measuring tool that I wouldn't be without. Paul via phone On Jul 31, 2017, at 8:54 PM, P. J. Allingwrote: I don't remember if I ever posted this to the list, but I've been trying to find a lens hood for this lens, since I acquired it many years ago. When it was originally released sometime in the late 70's early 80's it was shipped with a lens hood, and has a large diameter front filter ring, which is unmarked, and why would it be? After all, those front filters were and are extremely expensive, and it does take rear filters in a much less expensive 30.5 mm diameter of which I fortunately have the full set. However the lens hood disappeared sometime before it came into my possession. Given the cost of a decent lens hood in 95mm diameter or greater, (I've measured the inside diameter and it might be 101mm), and the difficulty with returning an inexpensive lens hood to China, I'm loath to order one that might not fit. The slip on plastic lens cover has an inside diameter of 106mm so 112mm the next common size up from 101mm is out. Unfortunately my tools and aren't very accurate for measuring the inside diameter of the lens threads, (simply a metal rule in inches and metric), and there's more than enough slop for the diameter to be anything between 95mm to 103, the later of which would be just a nightmare to find. -- America wasn't founded so that we could all be better. Larry is right -- those are "canonical" images. But you MUST go to a baseball game. Wrigley is a cultural experience. Probably more the surrounding Wrigleyville dining. If you travel through Wisconsin or Ohio I can point you to some of each state's treasures.
