GESO: Stratford-upon-Avon

2017-10-21 Thread Alan C
Some shots from our recent UK trip. We went to Stratford for a reunion with
some university acquaintances. Just look at the expression on Lady Macbeth's
face! The jovial Sir John Falstaff appears in The Merry Wives of Windsor &
Henry IV (parts I & II) before finally being bumped off at the beginning of
Henry V - the longest running Shakespearian character.

Image transfer from camera to PC in real time

2017-10-21 Thread Leon Altoff
Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to transfer images from my camera to a PC in real
time. I have a K3 and a K70 to work with. I can use WiFi or USB.

Does anyone have a way of doing this?

Larry, the MGB GT is a cool car. An acquaintance had a much admired red one

Subject: GESO Jasmine and neighbor roulette

Now that I have a driveway again, I was able to pull Jasmine out of the
garage so I can work on other projects. I gave her a quick bath and took
some photos on the off chance that someone might be willing to pay some
reasonable fraction of the money that I have invested in the engine.
Otherwise, at some point before the heat death of the universe maybe I’ll
have both the time and money to finish putting her back together.

The photos are more by way of “fun things in my life” rather than
particularly artistic photography.

Some fun details that you can see in the photos:
SCCA legal roll cage (with matching logbook)
Note that the upper side bar is bent, while it's not quite as strong as a
straight bar, it greatly facilitates getting in and out, and is a lot
stronger than no bar.
Once I added the second sway bar up front, I was able to put power to the
ground coming out of the turns, and had problems with axle tramp, which is
an issue when putting over 100 hp to the ground. I had just purchased some
traction bars when I had to take the old motor apart.

If the gear shift looks a bit odd, that's because it's a Ford 5-speed box.
Yes, that's a boost gauge. No it's not just decorative.
Aluminum head ported by Replicka Maschinen, high lift roller rockers matched
with custom elgin cam.
Custom Aluminum back plate. Combined with the aluminum head, aluminum
flywheel, Pauter rods, lighter starter and alternator, weight savings of
about 50 static pounds. That's good for about 1/2 second/lap.

Hp enterprises blower from Melbourne.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157686424694052

While I was repositioning her, I was going to stick one of the cars next
door to give more room for maneuvering around the driveway. My old neighbor
said it was fine for me to park cars there while the house is in escrow, so
that it wouldn’t look quite so empty. It turns out that the new neighbor
had just started moving in. It turns out that one thing he does for fun is
astrophotography. I started telling him about the astrotracer feature and
he replied “I know, I have one”. So, cool beans, a neighbor with an
equatorial mount rig that I can even share camera gear with!

Liked the travelogue - even the drone shots :-)   a particular fave is
Bob's bike. What's the story behind it?
Also, is the shape the ruins of the abbey are in due to centuries of
weather abuse or did WWII bombings

play into it?  Also, the canal photo was very interesting.

I didn't know the cranberries in Wensleydale were from North America -
yummy stuff .

Re: Kiss me, Hardy

Quite simple actually. Below the Red Ensign:

Cutty Sark herself is identified by four signal flags from the International
Code of Signals. The code is a series of flags, each one representing a
letter of the alphabet, which is used by ships for communication between
ships and from ship to shore. Signal letters are the four letters assigned
to every ship as a means of identification and are known as the ship’s
“number”. For Cutty Sark these flags represent the letters JKWS, referencing
the owner’s name JocK WilliS.

Re: Ann's Paris Book

2017-10-21 Thread ann sanfedele
No - it could easily take two weeks... and it will come by USPS - you
can certainly contact them and ask if it has shipped yet ...  You
ordered only a week ago... they don't get it into production on weekends..
give it at least another 8 or 9 days - but you can always contact them
and ask when it shipped

also - given where you live, the mail in most of NoCal must be screwed
up because of the fires, dont you think?

Thanks, Ann. I didn’t even notice that “bit of something.” Thanks for calling
it to my attention. I usually crop to get rid of things like that, but I’m not
sure I can do that with this image, and I’d rather not anyway. I suspect
there’s another way, something I haven’t tried. Do you have a suggestion?

BTW, all those images were shot with my iPhone. Viewing them on the phone, I
was disappointed. When I got em into Lightroom, I was impressed. Turns out when
viewing RAW images the phone the Apple Photos app shows the preview, not the
actual image. The apparent depth of field surprises me. At least most images
sharp throughout the distance from the lens. My main disappointment with the
phone as camera is the extreme wide angle of the lens. The web tells me it’s a
30 mm-ish equivalent focal length. Even when shooting landscapes there are
times I’d like a narrower field of view.

The shot that caught my eye was the wings with the Morris Minor and Land
Rover in the background. All in all a nice mixture of pleasant memento
shots and nice photographs.

Mostly with the K5 & DA 18-55 with a few Drone images thrown in.

Re: Adobe doesn't seem to want my money

2017-10-21 Thread Henk Terhell
My current workflow is with LR 4 RAW DNG and making sometimes final
adjustments not possible in LR 4 (e.g. perspective correction) in
Elements 9 (free copy received with my Epson scanner).
I bought LR 4 more than 5 years ago and therefore costs sofar are only
some $ 30/year.
New K-1 lenses are not recognized and can't be corrected of course in LR
4 .
As I don't like the CC subscription model I wonder whether it is a good
idea to buy LR 6 now it is still available. Perhaps this would serve me
an equal long time.
I don't need more cloud storage having already 1 TB with Office 365 and
unlimited JPEG storage with Flickr Pro, plus a set of external hard
disks for my RAW files.
Any comments whether I should give my money again to Adobe to a soon
outdated version of LR?

First, Lightroom 6 will be the final standalone version of Lightroom.
There will be a Lightroom 6.3 update that will provide Nikon D850
support (which is here now for Lightroom Classic CC, Lightroom CC, and
Photoshop CC), but that's all that we can expect. There will be no
further updates after this year to Lightroom 6. While Lightroom 6 will
still be available for an unspecified amount of time, going forward,
there will simply be two new subscription-only desktop versions:
Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom CC.

GESO: Yorkshire Dales

2017-10-21 Thread Alan C
As promised, my travelogue of the Yorkshire Dales (62 deep, sorry Cotty).
The weather & lighting was very changeable but the K5 did well. The
interiors were all shot at high ISO, a big step up from the K7. William
Turner, the English Artist, painted a scene looking down the River Ure
towards Marsham. The image is from that location although it is much more
overgrown today. A recent petition prevented the building of new houses in
this field of view. A Wallace & Gromit cartoon in which Wallace touted
Wenseydale cheese had a profound effect on the business. The American
connection is the imported cranberries. Some of the shots are not so great
but I'll never get another opportunity.

Most of all, this trip gave me a chance to focus on other things besides
animals!
