Testing the weather sealing

2018-10-30 Thread Larry Colen
I got knocked ass over teakettle this afternoon by a wave at Thor's well
this afternoon. The good news is that I had the lens cap on the 15-30,
my K-1, K-3II and my 28-105 all seem to be unscathed. I also expect my
various scrapes and contusions to heal OK.
The not so good news is that the 15-30 will no longer autofocus and when
I put it on either of two camera bodies they don't read it as an
autofocus lens. I don't see any damage to contacts.

Any ideas for an easy fix? Or should I just send it in?

Re: OT:Smartphone Controllable High-Speed Camera Trigger

2018-10-30 Thread John

Not *just* a sarcastic comment ...

I thought the device looked interesting, but you need the smartphone app to get
full utility out of it.

Programming it with the smartphone app appears to be MIOPS primary advantage
over other triggering devices. Since I can't install apps on my phone right now,
I'm less interested in it than I might be. Maybe later.

I've got a Mac User's Group meeting coming up in a couple of weeks and I plan to
ask them to help me with my app problem.

And maybe by then Jellop will have sorted out the problems that led to mixed
reviews.

Have you've gotten that one already, John, or was it just a sarcastic comment
from you aimed at apps?

While this unit looks interesting, it seems rather specialized, - in the
sense of the situations where you'd be using it. (I don't mean that it's bad,
it's just that you should be in a specific genre to need it.)
That's before you enable the control from the smartphone. But as a remote
trigger, which would a much more used functionality, - isn't it a bit too
expensive?

BTW, the subject line is a bit confusing, in the sense that in the
smartphone-controlled triggering, there is not much of the "high-speed"
functionality involved, is there?

I.e. high-speed triggering is "orthogonal" to controlling from a smartphone.

Also, it seems to have gotten some mixed reviews on B:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1074687-REG/miops_miops_camera_trigger.html
and on Amazon:

(It looks like QC is not the best.)

As for Amazon, - it placed a label "Amazon's Choice" for "miops":
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0143ENSSO/?th=1
Given that it is the only "miops" (which is actually not a category but a brand
name). So, Amazon wisely chose the only one product in the "category". :-)

house."
