Re: Pentax convert
It is in line with the interview, posted a few days ago, with the Ricoh engineer predicting the resurgence of DSLRs, after the novelty of mirrorless wears off, that received such derision in the comments. On the other hand based on this guy's voyage of discovery he seems a bit, flighty, so maybe his love affair with the K-1 II will prove just as ephemeral as was the dalliances with Sony and Fuji. Still it would be nice if he manages to drive some of his fans to Pentax. They could certainly use the encouragement, (where is that K-3 successor they kept promising). Some interesting birds there. I like the images of the house sparrows, especially 2415, 19 and 20. Re: Chitwood at night (intermediate processing)
"There have been instances of them rocketing through the roof of a two story home and landing a couple blocks away". When I was wee tot living in Durban (about 1948) there was a hell of a bang in the early hours of one morning which woke up the whole neighbourhood. A boiler safety valve had failed &, exactly as Paul quoted, it went through the roof & landed in the bush on the other side of the road. Many windows were broken &, unfortunately, there were fatalities. Alan C On 28-May-19 08:57 PM, Paul Sorenson wrote: Aha! Here in the US they're just called water heaters, be they electric or gas fired. Although some call them "hot water heaters" with the usual reply of "If the water's already hot, why do you need to heat it?" ;-) Good idea to make sure the temperature-pressure valve is working as it should. If they stick in the closed position and the unit overheats they can explode. There have been instances of them rocketing through the roof of a two story home and landing a couple blocks away. Personally I prefer the wider view mostly because of the sky, but, as the bridge is the subject, the last one really does it justice. I've been sorting out a problem on my daughter's geyser. Gunge in the TP valve which leaked continuously because it wouldn't seat. Fortunately I was able to clean it by purging a few times using the manual override. No elephants today! The third image (almost B/W) probably shows the bridge best of all but the sky is subdued. If you could get the sky more like the last image it would be greatly improved. BTW, you work? Hi Alan, I'm at a hotel in LA, just have my laptop, which just had the versions as I had worked on them before I got home, but I tried following your suggestions, and had to post them to a different album. For various reasons, things are a lot rougher on the laptop, so these are closer to drafts, or sketches rather than a final product. But, from: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/albums/72157708398198205 I think that this one might be the closest to toning down the unpleasant stuff in reality, and boosting the nice stuff, but still not looking too unrealistic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/47949213213/in/album-72157708398198205/ This one gets further from trying to make the photo seem like (an idealized) reality. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/47949193712/in/album-72157708398198205/ and This is a much smaller (and easier to work with) panorama, I think that while it has the least "pop" it's also the least unreal looking. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/47949250588/in/album-72157708398198205/ Alan C On 27-May-19 10:17 PM, Larry Colen wrote: Unfortunately, I have to leave right now for work. I've done a bit more work on the night photos of the Chitwood bridge. Post processing is taking a lot of work with the adjustment brush, dodging, burning etc. in various areas. I'd appreciate feedback on these intermediate steps, what works, what doesn't, what I need to tone down or dial up and I'll beat on them again in a few days when I get back. I think they've got some promise, but it'll take work to bring them out. It's rather challenging lighting. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/albums/72157708789408687 -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

For myself, I am seriously looking into getting a Panasonic G9 with a few of the Leica zooms, it is just amazing what that technology can do these days, and the lenses are relatively small and light. That said, I will never part with my K1 (and K3) with 30+ Pentax lenses, the oldest from the mid seventies or so ...
