Interesting. I also used an S1a for 15 years until a Coke spill finished
it off. I replaced the body with a Praktica MTL5B which worked like a
Spotmatic at a fraction of the price & allowed me to continue using my
M42 lenses.

I've done some adequate work with an early S-1a[0] and later a K-1000, both of

do regret not having acquired the Auto-110 which was for a time available; I'd
seen just how good decent optics could render on such a small format.

Frankly, I think this is horse doodoo. Granted some of the menu options
are more than a little opaque in what they do, with the owner's manual
not doing much to quell the confusion. This usually is easily overcome
with an internet linked device and a search engine.
Otherwise the control layouts are good, the menus are easily navigated
and for the most part make sense, and the cameras now at least function
adequately in either automatic or manual modes.
Granted the pre Ricoh cameras needed a lot of assistance in the let's
make a picture department, but now they seem to work the way they should.
I consider myself to be at least passingly proficient, and don't find

I don't know. I do know that I can't really use any camera without a viewfinder.

My arms are not steady enough and I can't focus on the little TV screen on the

I can use Live View on the K-1 when I have it mounted on the tripod, but off of

As I recover from shoulder surgery and am barely able to lift a camera to my
eye right now—and it's ill-advised as yet to do so anyway—I'm poking through my
print and image file archives for interesting photos to post that I've not
gotten to ...

A few weeks (months?) ago on a walk through the neighborhood, I became
interested in the micro-graffiti at the traffic signals and other sign posts.
This was the first:

Excess :: https://flic.kr/p/2jm2HDD

While I have a couple more, I think I'll pursue this idea further when I can
more easily carry a camera again. It seems that this level of graffiti is very
fluid and the same signpost or signal indicator gets wiped clean and re-adorned
on a regular basis. :)

enjoy!

Actually Sigma has a current production, (last I knew at least),
mirrorless camera using their proprietary lens mount.  I predicted that
the release of the K01, without an Eye level finder, and it's world wide
meh, reception would insure that no one would ever do that again, but I
was wrong.

Sigma released two beasts, one with a full frame foveon sensor, and a
little brother with a Cannon "APS-H"* sensor foveon sensor IIRC, which
had a world wide meh reception, but I won't predict that Sigma won't
release another of these camera because well, Sigma...

*Not really APS-H but a 1.3 crop 2:3 format, but Cannon called it APS-H
so I guess we're stuck with it.

With the camera market shrinking, Nikon & Canon are likely to put most

Thanks Stan!

It is a really interesting process, and satisfying from begin to end.
Forces you to select the images, sort them in a way that is at least
pleasant, and commit to it. Having tangible results is also great, there's
a difference versus say making a web site, since on the web there's the
feeling that you can change things at any time.

Wow, sorry to hear about the flooding! Sounds like a tough time. 2020 has
been a terrible year hasn't it? We have a seven month old baby girl, if it

Juan, interesting idea! I ordered a copy to see what the product looks like,
feels like…
I followed your blog during your expedition, and am glad to see a few images
from that time.

We have been able to travel quite a bit. Once the covid-19 shutdowns forced
cancellation of our plans for this year, I settled in to do a few blurb books
of photos from our travels. Then our house was flooded (27” water throughout)
and I have spent the last 8 weeks working on recovery. At this point there is
little more i can do other than wait for contractor estimates so I can see
whether or not the house can be saved, and was about to start back to work on
my blurb projects. I had been working with a notion of one “chapter” per
destination, 4-6 pages, 10-15, sometimes 20 images per chapter. Your zine
approach has me thinking of alternatives…

The good thing about Pentax is that a technically proficient photographer can
get extremely good image quality out of the system.

The bad thing about Pentax is that it takes a technically proficient
photographer to get decent image quality.

The worse thing about Pentax is that the UI designers are dedicated to making
grossly overpriced point and shoot cameras and do everything they can to get in
the way of the technically proficient photographer.

Pentax fails completely with video options. Everyone is buying canon, sony,
panasonic because they need to shoot video and stills with one system.

Re: PESO: Neowise from the Netherlands

2020-07-14 Thread Toine
The last one is with the fa200. The first set is the da60 250 at different
focal lengths. The astrotracer moves the ccd and causes some small loss in
resolution.

Re: Comet Neowise

2020-07-14 Thread David Mann
At least you get to try. When I checked I found that it's only above the
horizon here for a couple of hours late morning / early afternoon. I haven't
looked at its orbit so I don't know whether it's going to move to the other
side of the sun later.

Cheers,
Dave
