Re: OT: Rain, rain, rain.

2020-12-23 Thread David Mann
The stream behind our house looks a bit like that at times. During the past
few years they've been building rainwater storage ponds upstream so the
flooding is nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

Cheers,
Dave

After a few dryish years, we are being inundated. Rain all night. The
Dec. rainfall is now over 200mm - more than twice the average. With the
ground so saturated, the run off is very high & the small town streams
have become raging torrents. I took this shot early this morning. The
stream feeds some disused ponds at the old sewage works, now inhabited
by a large group of Hippos.

Yes, Paul, it is a consideration but nowhere near as dangerous as it was
30 years ago. All the fences & pallisades now restrict free movement of
large wild animals. Lions, Leopards, Elephants & Buffalos are rare in
town today but there are resident Baboons, Warthog & Hippos to watch out
for. Foot Safaris (very expensive!) are offered in Kruger accompanied by
armed rangers. There are probably plenty of photographic opportunities
in the overgrown town "parks". I just need to be more observant like Dave.

Return to the fold

2020-12-23 Thread Collin Brendemuehl
Pretty much back from rotator cuff surgery from April. Strength is enough for
my woodworking and now for a real camera. Just got in a used 67 75/4.5 off FB
and will be picking up a 67 body next week.

The 75 has a little dust inside. Any disassembly manuals out there?

Really looking forward to using this lens. May add a 105 to it later this next
year.

This mushroom popped up in the lawn today. I took a flash shot before it
is destroyed by the looming thunderstorm tonight. No idea which variety
but probably poisonous.
