Those are lovely shots -- I like the first one and the 6th one  best. I 
think.. who was it that was asking what the "golden hour" is?

It is the hour you took these photos :-)
The person in the background striding along makes that one for me.. and 
the geometry and color in the 6th.. but they are all nice

We stayed in Statesville for the week or so we were there. 

That’s an impressive bit of detective work- you could be right about Winston 
Salem, I may have got the places confused. My overriding memory is that the 
place seemed deserted and we jaywalked a lot, since it was a new experience for 
us (no such thing over here). 

Also it was very hard to get a drink in Statesville.
