Any comments, Dario?

As rare as it must be, the starting price on this auction looks
ludicrously high.Terms such as IR focusing system and image
intensifier came up in references to this lens. It seems like that
function of the lens has gone out-of-service and has been replaced
with a simple mounting tube which looks unoriginal and most
un-Asahi-like in its style and finish.

I reread the Spotmatic No. 40 (April 2004): You're right, it's a 300mm

The mounting the tube seems also an original.

Does anyone know what it is? It might not be a still camera mount as
the lens has a history in broadcasting. It was used on a big old TV
camera so it should have ample coverage for my 4/3 Oly. I'm hoping
that there's a T-mount in front of that very plain bayonet as this
lens came in two versions, C-mount or T-mount, and that's too big to
be a C-mount. It's a reputable brand widely used in still, cine and
video, and with a day and a half to go the price is still rock bottom.

I'd be inclined to insulate it with some electrical tape and possibly

Seen on Ebay, this Pentax K1000: red markings on body and lens.

# 160303122400

This is visible:
* The top of the camera has 3 nice black plastic coverings.
* A''Made in Japan''label is on the back of the body.
* On top of the camera, there are engravings of
PENTAX,''ASAHIK1000 ASAHI OPT. CO.''And the Asahi Co.
Emblem. All of these engravings are red.

* The camera has an 55mm f2 RED Pentax SMC.

But it probably does not:
* The camera has a shutter low vibration and highly responsive light meter.
* The red SMC engraving is different from the white engraving because
the red has more coating layers.

Here is not certain:
* The camera has an additional double flash X terminal.
* He bought this camera at a show organized by Asahi Co. Ltd..

Re: SDM technology lenses

2008-06-09 Thread Michel Carrère-Gée
gldnbearz a écrit :
Can someone educate me on the SDM enabled lenses? Am I correct in
understanding that the AF is engaged only if you use the lens with an
SDM enabled body? Otherwise the lens if MF only?

SO is a bad influence/enabler... I'm being encouraged to upgrade
from the istDS to a K200 +/- 50-135 lens, so I'm checking to see what
ramifications might be. Not that I *need* the 50-135 when I have the
really nice 16-45 and just got the 50-200 this month.
Read the FAQ at!
http://www.pentaximaging.com/footer/news_media_article?ArticleId=10527486

/ Q: Will PENTAX be developing SDM-only lenses from now on?
A: No: Despite the great advantages of our SDM autofocus systems, we
will continue to develop both SDM and body-based focus systems. In fact,
different types of lenses have different requirements. For example, our
unique Limited lenses are often so compact that there is no space for an
SDM autofocus motor. Until time and technology present other options, we
will continue to develop both types of autofocus systems.
Remark: Current DA* lenses (16-50mm, 50-135mm, 200mm and 300mm) contain
both SDM and body-based focusing. While we will continue to develop
lenses for each type of autofocus system, we will also phase out lenses
that support both types of focusing simultaneously. Due to issues of
cost, development timeframe and other factors, in the future, PENTAX
lenses will either support SDM focusing or body-based focusing, but not
both. /

 Thanks, Michel!

The ring was actually a little loose (weird!) and I've been able to
turn it most of the way out - but now I'm bumped up against a
slightly-damaged thread, and it is now much more difficult.

If the screw is damaged and too hard disassembling: you can bore two
holes diametrically opposite in the ring and unscrew it with a tool with
two points. To bore with the smallest possible diameter by avoiding the
inscriptions on the ring and by taking care not to bore deeper than

I recall someone on this list mentioning the K2 ASA ring has a common
fault. But I can't find it in the archives (sorry, wasn't paying
attention at the time of the thread). Mine seems to be stuck - press
the ASA button, and no way does the ring want to turn. Is this
something easily fixable?

Oh, that's a lovely kit. I wish my MEF came with the historic lens.

BTW the autofocus indicators are dead on mine too. Our Pentax
distributor said it couldn't be fixed because the PCB is now
unavailable. Must be a common cause of failure.

The visual and beep AF indicators work fine, but the actual autofocus
buttons on the lens do nothing, sadly. I bought the lens from a
reputable dealer in Edmonton, but they were likely unable to test the
Autofocus because they didn't have the MEF body.

You can test the F zoom without the ME-F body, read at:

another user. I reported it to ebay and to the lister.

I think the guy wants someone to send him $700 offlist for the lens
which I doubt he has. It is only a 24 hour listing. Everything is
the same as the previous ad

* The Pentax F, FA and DA lenses are all reported accurately as you
would expect
* The 1.7x adapter doesn't report anything, also, as I guess, you
would expect
* Sigma lenses are read incorrectly most of the time (the 20mm/1.8 is
correct)
* I don't have too many Tamron or Tokina lenses, but they aren't read
correctly. Interesting
