RE: Checking in

2020-03-08 Thread jcoyle
Most of the fires were put out by the previous storms, about 3 weeks/a month
ago. My part of the world did not have the massive fires that were happening
in Victoria and New South Wales, the nearest to me was about 40k away. Our
main concern has been drought, and so this rain was very welcome indeed (except
when you are trying to load a car with 25 boxes of stuff and it won't stop!) in
drought-declared areas.

I don't think it was me. I hope it wasn't me. Yahoo is the last remaining email
account I can use to post to PDML.

I don't want to have to go through the crap I had to go through with RoadRunner
& get another new email account, especially when the Earthlink account I got has
its own problems with PDML's SPAM filter (about half the time one or more of
Earthlink's server IP addresses is on SpamEatingMonkey's shit list).

Many thanks to you for the prompt response. I was in the "I wonder if this is
for real" stage, having checked at PDML central to see that unsubbing generated
a confirmatory email, which I had not received, for quite a while. By the time
I was sure I was out (for some reason unkown to me at the time) you had already
resubbed me. If I'd been asleep, I probably wouldn't have even known it had
happened.

An email from a member ticked off a number of guardians, leading to
excessive bounces from around forty accounts, yours included. The PDML

A couple people, like Godfrey, just resubbed, and I added back the

Catchy name!

They're Galahs - a medium sized cockatoo and very common. They're
expanded their range since European settlement.

Interestingly, the term galah is a somewhat derogatory term when
applied to humans - as in you stupid galah when someone does
something idiotic. It's usually expressed in a joking manner and is
rarely regarded as an offensive term.

In the USA we use 'turkey' in sort of the same fashion - though as I
type that I'm thinking its only old farts like me that would use that
expression!

Gorgeous birds, Brian, and a great composition. Did they eventually move in?

Thanks Bruce, Paul Jack.

No - it's an interesting tree hollow. Apart from the galahs, it's
been checked out by Kookaburras, Eastern Rosellas and even a pair of
wood ducks. The galahs have been returning every day or so but they
have made no attempt to move in. The hollow certainly seems big
enough - both birds have been inside at the same time - but there must
be something unsuitable about it. Maybe it gets too wet. Or the
rent's too high...

Cute birds but I suspect they might be a bit noisy in the mornings.

We had a blackbird building a nest in the lemon tree right next to our back
door, but it was destroyed by a wind storm before she finished it.

Hi all,

Haven't checked in much since GFM. Went on an extended trip with Diane the week
after I got home from GFM. We traveled to California for a family reunion
in Sacramento. Then to San Francisco for a couple of days. Then up Hwy 1 to
Oregon. Throught the Columbia River gorge and up into Washington then Northern
Idaho for several days visiting family. From there we went down to Moab, Utah
for a couple of days at Arches and Canyonlands. Then home. I have been shooting
around home, but have not posted anything online.

I got an email from my Mom telling me that my Dad has fallen and broken his hip,
so now, I am on my way back to Calif. Will spend some time in Sacramento area
but I haven't decided how long I will be staying and where I am going to go
afterwards. Larry, are you up for a meetup in the near future? Anyone else
Tonight I am in Tucumcari, NM, and should be in Sacramento in a couple of
days.

Will be checking my email daily, hopefully.

I hope you enjoy the hell out of your trip. If you manage to meet up

Hope you get some wonderful shots and, most importantly, that your dad

Thanks to all that have wished a speedy recovery for my Dad. My brother said he
is doing better today, not seeing sea gulls flying around in his hospital room.
Guess he couldn't handle the drugs too well. I am in Barstow, CA tonight and
should get to Sacramento area tomorrow. I will pass on the good wishes.

John Francis sent me info on the meet up in Sausalito and I think I should be
able to make it. If anyone could send me info on how to find the fountain it
would make my life much simpler. I will be driving in from Sacramento area and
have never been to Sausalito before. Is it in the VINA DEL MAR PLAZA? That is
the only park on Sausalito's park page that lists a fountain.

Larry, are you going to the meet up in Sausalito? I would like to visit Santa
Cruz also and would drive down after the pdml shoot if that is okay with you.
If
so email me off list with address and phone # if you aren't going to the pdml
shoot.

Lot's of driving to do tomorrow so I guess I better send this. Once again,
Thanks to you all.

Checking out until December

With less than 2 weeks to go before departure for Argentina and
Antarctica, I'm beginning to feel the heat of both travel fever and
pressure at work. As a result I'm down to reading less than one in a
hundred of the PDML mails, I think. That's the way it feels anyway.
Not enough time to enjoy the proceedings. :-(

So see y'all in December.

I'll be posting irregular travel letters to my blog if the ship allows
me to use its satellite link, but it will be text only. The PESOs will
have to wait until I get back.

Cheers, and don't do anything I would have done.
