My first obstacle was that Adobe Premiere Pro (CS4) didn't like some -
but not all - of the mp4 files produced by the Flip Video camera.
Weird. So I set about converting them into a format that it would cope
with. However, every conversion I tried has issues: Some produced good
video but distorted audio. Or no audio at all. Some turned out audio
but no video. In the end I settled on one file format that produced
good audio and one that produced good video and applied both
conversions, then combined them into a single AVI file that works.
That's where I am now.

Next is writing a bit of script and editing the stuff together.

With luck, those of you who've never been to GFM will have a video to
give you an idea of what it's like soon.

Nothing to worry about. After all, most of those photos were shot with
a K20D, which has that horrible, terrible, awful Samsung sensor.

In all seriousness, let me tell you what I'm doing:

For my annual mountaintop bivouac I clipped a Flip Video camera onto
the shoulder strap of my back pack. I got quite a bit of standard-def
video on the hike out, during my photo shoot and on the way back,
commenting as I went along. I'going to put together a video using
parts of this video (the less-motion-sickness-inducing bits!) with

Funny thing is, I was a bit disappointed after finishing that shoot -
I spent about 99% of the time up there that morning completely in the

A great set of images but "Clouds cover Calloway Peak at sunrise" and

Ok, so I picked my favorite:

Lighting and composition win out for me.

Going through them one by one
unidentified flower - reminds me of Toine's Lensbaby shots, very nice
balance and creaminess
yellow violet - gotta totally agree with Stan here, ot1h choosing a
non-traditional angle is good otoh this one separates too much
newt - either there is a joke i am missing or the photo is about the
newt that has an amazing color, surroundings rather bland
junco - brilliant. that tilted head does it all for the image. the
photo really makes the caption come alive in my mind
wake robin - interesting subject and the image grows on me after a
while, somehow took me a moment longer to appreciate
jack in the pulpit - nice repetition of in and out of focus elements
between center and upper right
dusk view - great silhouette but the images that come after it have me
spoiled regarding the sky... =)
sunrise on awp - much the same as dusk view but far better... the sky
is gorgeous albeit less dramatic
clouds over c...@sunrise - outstanding - positively poster material
early morning on awp - small step back from previous but still
gorgeous... more serene again
6 am sun's up - again outstanding and would sell many posters
clinton's lily - other than my notion that her name was Monica, sweet,
not as lensbabyish and very nice 'colorscape' and bg
home for the night - I hated you enough already...
swinging bridge 1&2 - both again definite poster material
shanty branch 1 - very pretty and I guess that smoky water effect just
looks best on most waterfalls...
mushroom - tres cool with the bits of spider web clinging, good geometry
shanty branch 2 - much nicer than 1 imo, benefits much from the foreground
early morning 1&2 - the layer effect is well executed, might look
great desaturated and perhaps b/w
gray's lily 1&1 - both very pretty, 1 more placative, 2 has a very
nice juxtaposition

all in all I HATE YOU... and you WELL DESERVE IT =)
thanks for sharing

Thanks Mark - very nice shots of a special place. I particularly like two of
the sunrise shots:

http://www.robertstech.com/images/7da02447.jpg and
http://www.robertstech.com/images/7da02466.jpg

Of the set, I think the second is the weakest -

The flower itself is beautiful but seems to just hang there in space (hardly
any visible stem) and has no discernible connection to the surround.
