Heh; clever! Something else to try is putting your LED source *inside* the softbox as a miniature modelling light. I would love to see a shot of you wearing the headlamp and crouching over those flowers with the softbox on a stick ... I really like your silliness shot. After taking all the photos except the funny looking cormorant, that thought occurred to me too. There's probably a market for a rectangular ring of LEDs that fit around the rim of a speedlight to use a modeling lights.
