If you’re ever in downtown Oakland the night herons are damn near oversized 
pigeons. I once saw one just outside of Everett & Jones, one of my favorite bbq 
places, definitely worth the trip if you’re in that area.  

When I say that they’re damn near pigeons, this photo was shot at 45mm, I 
didn’t even zoom the 16-50 all of the way in:

The Rubber Ducky was my wife's choice.  I decided to go with something more
traditional, but displaying the Rubber Ducky is the main reason for this
post..  

The others are included for sentimental reasons.

I was on a Seine River cruise, just returning to Paris one morning, when I
opened the curtains and saw that swan right outside our cabin!  What a
scene!  Of course, by the time I grabbed my camera, we had moved on, and I
got only a backward glance at him.

The Nene is, of course, the Hawaiian state bird, and very hard to find and
photograph.  This is the best shot I have managed over the years.

The night heron was the most exotic water bird I photographed on Maui last
year, so I included it despite the fact it is not a great image.
