Aren't Punch (Punchinello) & Pulcinella the same character?

He is based on the character of Pulcinella from the Italian Commedia dell’arte.
His profile is said to be derived from that of the Emperor Vespasian, as seen
on Roman coins.

In the U.K. that would most often be identified as "Mr Punch"
(from "Punch & Judy" puppet shows, and also featuring on the

A most peculiar place indeed.

What do you call the guy in the third and fifth photo? It would be a
Kasper in German or a Guignol in French.

GESO - Mercer Museum

2023-09-09 Thread Rick Womer
Yesterday we took a trip to Doylestown, a well-preserved town incorporated in
1838, about an hour west of Philly.

Among its assets is the Mercer Museum, established by Henry Mercer in 1916, and
filled with his (very idiosyncratic) collection of tools, baskets, decorative
tiles, stoves, carriages, dolls, pottery, and a fire engine, The exhibits are
very haphazard and not very well labelled or annotated, but it is a very
interesting place nonetheless.

So, herewith a haphazard collection of photos:

Comments always appreciated!
