I suppose having an interesting subject helps. Anyway, it's got pretty much everything a person could want in a picture. I got lucky. It was one of those, "hmmm, this is interesting" shots that worked out. Probably would have worked even without the person in it, but I'm glad she was there. 70387 is nicely dynamic, and well composed. You've got the walkers at the right time and place. I can only rarely do that, and so get walking people in clumsy poses. One of the pictures in my Chicago gallery has the "Striding Woman" going on in it. Very poor timing. Kind of a panic shot. I was lining everything up and the people were heading out pretty fast, while I was shooting through a window and hoping I could keep it a clean shot. 70409 is classic. Thanks. DBK70454 needs something. The composition is perfect, but it looks like a movie set of a 1930s American City. The light is perfect, all the details are there, but it is lacking something. I dunno, a couple of swashbucklers fencing with epees, a person on a bicycle, any sign of life. I'd of probably either done something similar, or waited for someone to enter the picture so that I could ruin it with bad timing. As I mentioned to Mark, I blew a shot with a white car moving through, so I know exactly what you mean. This one is going into the "so close" file. Was I the only one who noticed how clean Chicago is? Nope. I was impressed. DBK70463 is one that wouldn't have surprised me to see in the Eggleston show. Can't decide if that's a compliment. DBK70488 perfect composition and light. I tried something like that and got bad light and I missed the train anyway. May crop to get rid of the remnants of the Staples sign. DBK70533 cormorant, right? could be. DBK70513 I like this one too. It's another picture that has everthing going for it. yeah, that's in the "keeper" file. Anyway, those are the ones I looked at. There was a young lady strolling through the show in a black skirt with a pink floral pattern and the pink was the exact shade of a pink in one of the Eggleston print of some flowers and pink tile. Her scarf was of same shade. It would have been a triumphant shot if I could have gotten it, but I think the guard was already on to me for fiddling with my camera. Alas, I was only able to fire one from the hip, and it's another I klunked. Tragic under-exposure, comp all wrong, and the guard landed closer to the print than the young lady did. I got busted for touching some sort of big stone thing that looked like a prop from 2001. Of course, the do not touch sign was on the other side of it, and equally of course, Tom got away with doing the same thing as what I got popped for. I kept my hands in my pocket after that. And Tom got busted later for stepping over a guard rope, so the score kinda got evened out. Tom, did you notice that I accidentally got in the way of the guard and then played a little shuck and jive with him to give you time to frame that shot? So humble. A fine collection of an artists eye at work. Well, except the one of the alley. I did do a lot of the same in the 60s, but they never pleased me, so so I may be prejudiced against alley shots. :-) Look forward to Friday night. And hey everyone, I am proud to be represented by a bunch that hit Chi- town with intent, and did not get arrested! another :-) Bravo! Anyway: http://www.alphoto.com/images/chicago2010/ enjoy Doug, I had a great time meeting and spending time with you and the other PDML'ers ! Great gallery presented here with some very nice compositions with tons of interest. A few standouts for me are: #7 - brilliantly executed with the transparency and framing of the statues. Very mysterious. #8 - love the framing in this one and the crop of the painting on the left is perfect! #14 - very cool view of the L. Almost like its disintegrating into the light. #20 - great play of forms, reflections and colors #17 - this one is my favorite; shapes, colors, textures and light are all working together very nicely! I'm really looking forward to some more of your images from this great town. Take care buddy. I actually have a small print of it around here somewhere, from when my wife went to AIC years ago, but seeing the real thing was way better. Dropped in to see a couple of Pollocks as well, for Cotty. All in all, I really enjoyed the museum, and not just from a photographic standpoint. I could have stayed there for a couple more days, soaking it in. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
