After the hiatus of 18+ months in our travels due to the pandemic and associated shut downs, punctuated by a flooded house, a rental house destroyed by a falling tree, and then the death of my brother last November I have been thinking deep thoughts. Relevant to this group in particular is I have been wondering why I have so much stuff. My brother’s passing and the time and effort I’ve put into helping my sister-in-law deal with his accumulation of (mostly Pentax) photo gear, slides, prints, negatives (many going back to my father’s K-32 slides from the early 50s, my Grandmother’s Kodak camera shots in the early 1920s and studio family shots before that) etc. have convinced me that I need to clean out a few closets.
I have long trips coming up in June and August; in September and through the fall I will be giving/selling/auctioning much of my seldom used gear. The *ist-D might stay as a curio item on the shelf, but the ME-Super, K-01, K-5, WG-60, Q-S1, K-3ii will go. I will probably keep one K-1 and one 645Z, but may decide to keep just two FF or MF bodies and ditch the other system totally. Plus assorted lenses, even for the system I retain. Yes, the 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 are a great set, but I am just not likely to ever carry them with me on anything but a road trip, and I don’t see many road trips in my future. We’ll, maybe to Grandfather Mountain… Anyway, don’t be surprised to see flashes of lightening and clouds of dark smoke from this direction as the gears turn as I try to decide what to keep and what to let go.
