, seems to be better with the CA.

You could correct it from an imperfect equiangular projection to a
perfect equiangular projection. Just as you correct an imperfect
rectilinear projection to a perfect rectilinear projection, in the
case of rectilinear lenses.

It's quite difficult to fathom what else one could do for a lens "correction"

(Answering my own question)

Select all images shot with the particular lens.

"Develop" one of them, select profile correction, then COPY the development
settings.

Uncheck all, then just check "Lens Profile Correction".

Select ALL images, paste the copied setting.

I just went back to a series of prints that I shot with the kit lens back in
August. Turned on profile/correction for all of them and was surprised to see
the edges brighten up (didn't notice vignetting before, but I guess it was
there) and the field flattening out a bit (hadn't noticed the distortion,
either).

So... there is SOME correction going on there - but nothing too severe. Nice
to have that in there for the rare times I use the 18-55!

BTW - is there any way to highlight a group of shots and turn on the lens
profile correction for all of them "en masse"?

No, profiles for the 18-55 lenses were not present in LR 3.3.

Or it could be that Pentax is lower on the priority list than Canon or
Nikon, and they got the profiles from Pentax later.

I'm more inclined to go with a "not giving enough of a damn about
Pentax to think it through" explanation.

Your first hypothesis is unlikely; they provide profiles for better
lenses than the kit lens.

The second hypothesis may be true, but it gets the conditional
probabilities backwards. Even if people with the kit lens are less
likely to buy Lightroom, I'm sure there are more Lightroom owners who
use the kit lens than, say, the DA*55 or 15/4.

Myself, I never owned the "kit" lenses at all and would never miss the

Two possibilities occur to me. One is that the kit lens is so good that minimal
correction is needed. Second is that Pentax and/or Adobe may be assuming that
purchasers of a body with kit lens are not necessarily the consumers who will
