I would recommend a neoprene strap. I have several of them, the last I
have bought is a LowePro Transporter. It is light and comfortable, and
has a removable pouch for two memory cards.

Re: Neck strap

Tamrac straps are wide and comfortable, and they come with quick
release mechanisms so they can easily be removed for tripod use. I
use them on all my cameras. I tried the Pentax strap for a week or
two when I first bought my D, but found it much less comfortable. I
'm now using the Tamrac N-27 along with a hand grip.

A leather strap should be even better, but I couldn't find one.

You might want to get them to choose - neck straps seem to be a rather
personal thing. Some people seem to like the wide neoprene ones,
others do not. I like narrow webbing neckstraps. The best I've used
have been the LX strap, Leica straps and, best of all, the Domke 1
Gripper strap, which has a swivel attachment.

One could try modifying a leather dog leash by cutting off the loop and toggles

camera attachments to it.

At the moment, my most comfortable neck strap is an OP/TECH USA.
Slightly elastic foam rubber like material of decent width.
Also, has quick release connectors which leave only a short length of
narrow strap attached to the camera.

Re: Neck strap

2008-03-16 Thread George Sinos
Steve -

I'm using a Domke Gripper strap. It's about an inch and a half
wide, made of heavy woven Cotton. Two rubber grip strips are woven
into the material so it doesn't slide off your shoulder. Two very
short straps mount on the camera and the main strap attaches to them
with quick release swivel clips. Everything is very heavy duty,
comfortable and secure.

I've had one on the K10 for about a year and it's worked very well.
Just bought another Saturday for the K20. I paid just under $20 at
the local camera store.

If you want a very nice strap for free, go join Smugmug's free
photography discussion forum at http://www.dgrin.com. Once you join
you can go to http://smugmug.com/free-stuff.mg

It's a nice strap if you don't mind the Smugmug logo.
