Re: PESO: Daffodils in Winter
Could you put some sort of plastic tent over them to protect them when it finally does freeze? I've had to do that with my rose bush a couple of times. Luckily for that, a big plastic garbage bag works just fine. On 12/27/2015 2:30 PM, Daniel J. Matyola wrote: We are having an unusually warm (and wet) winter in the Northeast of the US. I find the out of focus front flower distracting. The general rule for flowers is the one in front should be in focus (certainly that "rule" can be broken, I have broke it :-)). You picked the center flower, which is also good. But, in this case, I think it would work better if both the front and center flower were in focus. The white daffs and the white porch didn't work all that well in color, either. After tinkering around with the black and white conversion and not having much luck, I finally applied a blue filter. This provided more separation between the flowers and the porch than anything else. It also brought out the noise. If you click on the magnifying glass near the top right of the photo you can see that I over sharpened it, too. The composition was initially appealing (I don't mind the sloping porch) but there's just too much else that's wrong with it. It'll probably go in the circular file sooner or later. Hello Scott, Daffodils are pretty cool flowers to shoot. The background latticework and porch posts are too overpowering in this instance. Perhaps colorizing just the flowers would give it a needed separation. As it stands, the dark/light patterns of the background really compete for my attention. -- Bruce Tuesday, April 24, 2007, 8:12:38 PM, you wrote: SL> The lure of the flowers is too strong! I've never considered shooting daffodils with a fisheye - dandelions, yes, but not daffodils. Exposure looks good, but the DOF seems just too shallow. At least having the entire main flower in focus would improve the shot for me. I am a bit surprised with how shallow the DOF is. You must have been very close.
