There are about 600 varieties of Eucalyptus, but koalas eat only a small
number of these.  Each koala usually eats mainly one or two species that
are native to its locality.  Rainbow Eucalyptus, *Eucalyptus deglupta , *is
native to the northern hemisphere.

I've never seen one in real life - it's one of the few eucs not native to

Looks like the normal Bluegum tree (Eucalyptus Globulus, imported from 
Australia originally) which is the feedstock species for the pulp and 
paper industry in South Africa. Has largely replaced the indigenous 
forests & gobbles up the meagre water supply. Smaller trees or those 
produced by coppicing of previously felled trees are used for termite 
resistant poles.Those colours apppear on the thin outer layers of the bark.

Spotted Gums but the bark doesn't look quite right.

I think they were Bluegum Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus globulus.  That is
the species most common in Hosmer Grove, where this was taken.
Further down the volcano they are mostly Rainbow Eucalyptus.
