Looks fine to me, Dave! Those Boston redtails are pretty tame; I once
came upon one that had landed on a traffic light and I was able to
photograph it for 15 minutes, until I got bored and walked off (I was
on my way to work, after all). Sadly, it was an overcast day so the
photos are of a hawk looking bored on a traffic light with a white sky
in the background. I would've killed for it to be on a tree! :-)

I was once walking through Harvard Yard and there was a hawk on the
ground in a standoff with a squirrel...and I didn't have a camera.

Then there was the time a hawk had an injured squirrel at its mercy
and I only had my crappy BlackBerry camera...

I think redtail hawks are just big photographer teasers.

I got all worked up about those damn redtails and went hunting for a
decent photo of one I might have taken. Just to redeem myself and be
able to sleep:

We should meet up some day for a photowalk, Dave. When are you meeting

That would be good, we actually had a meetup recently (That's where
the fountain picture came from). I'll let you know the next time
something is scheduled.

Let me know anytime you want to get together.

Re: PESO: My first Red Tail Hawk

2010-08-30 Thread Walter Gilbert
Very nice! I got a shot of one in flight a couple of months ago, but
it was utterly unusable. I just barely caught him in my peripheral
vision, and had to run around to the side of the house to get a shot of
him over an open field out back. There's also one that eludes my camera
on the way to work pretty regularly. He perches atop a street lamp in
the mornings, sometimes. I came very close to getting a great shot of
him, but one of those big utility trucks drove past and scared him off,
just as I was getting focused. I was livid about it all day.

Congrats on the shot!
