Really nice lens isn't it.

I can never seem to get close enough even with it.

it is. and i never expected it to be so compact. it gives me fairly
decent reach with the 1.7x TC and is perfectly handholdable too...

It's a great combination. The M*300 even lacking the a contacts is
almost as good, since under most circumstances you'd be shooting wide open.

Really good. You've got the background nicely blurred to make the shape
and features of the bird prominent.

I like Pelicans. They seem so extraordinarily clumsy on the ground but
when they manage to get airborne, they're magnificent!

Peso Not a cormorant

2010-04-11 Thread David J Brooks
A friend of mine works for York Region, and he told me Friday of this
bird rookery, just West of one of our major Hwy's.

http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=10901470

Not a great shot. I knew they would be far back from the road, so i
used the D200 and the Sigma 170-500, at 500. (I was going to use the
K10D and Sigma 300 with 1.4 tele, but could not find the tele) Its not
a great lens on digital, maybe better on a film body, but i have never
tried it. Not very contrasty and its soft.
No tripod, i forgot it, so i shot from the passenger side and used the
window as a tripod.

Any way, here it is.:-)
