Re: PESOs Weekend Birds

2020-09-14 Thread Paul Stenquist
Thanks Igor,
The clarity and crispness are as recorded by the camera. I added a wee bit of
overall sharpening to the Cardinal pic but none to the Grackle. I generally
just correct exposure, usually pulling down highlights and pushing shadows a
bit when converting from RAW in PhotoShop. I sometimes add a tiny bit of
overall sharpness, unrecognizable without pixel peeping, but refrain from even
that when working with dark subjects like the grackle or when shooting in dim
light, so as not to emphasize any noise. I do some dodging and burning as
necessary. On the Cardinal pic, I burned in some slightly overexposed areas on
the breast and dodged a bit of the underside which is in shadow.

Wow!
Stunning images!

You must have a great camera! :-)
(Just kidding. Referring to a frequent response from some random people.)

On a serious note, - if you don't mind, I am curious: For this type of
images, how much of the clarity & crispness comes straight from the
camera (with the particular lens/lens combination) and how much is
revealed ("pulled" [albeit not in the film-era terms]) in the
post-processing?

Thank you in advance,

Igor

Both lovely shots, as usual.

Poe would have the grackle above your chamber door, though, rather than on an
outdoor branch.
