Hi,

Yes, optically they are identical. The outer design is a bit different
(the F lens matches the SF bodies and the FA is black like the Z/PZ and
MZ/ZX bodies.

The general differences between F and FA lenses apply in this case too.

Yes, they share the same optical design. The FA has a
clamb for adjusting damping of the focusing mechanism
(needs adustment in quite a few samples).

I can pick up the *F*
version for about $10 less used compared with the
 *FA*
 version.

2001-02-04 Thread Dan Scott

If I'm remembering correctly, the FA has a wider focusing ring than the F
does (I believe someone referred to it as skinny), which is a
consideration, for me at least, using a lens that will require a lot of
manual focusing on the macroside of things. If I am remembering wrong,
hopefully someone will speakup. Hate spreading misinformation.

You can probably use a search engine to dredge up an old message from
someone at Pentax Vancouver that implies what the differences are.

IIRC, it is that the chips in the FA series communicate fuller
information to the body than do those in the F series, mainly the
MTF. Thus, it only makes a difference with AF bodies after the SF
series.

If the difference is only $10, I'd go for the FA, but I will say
that my F model of this lens performs like a champ on the Z1-p.

Pentax 100mm f2.8 MACRO Lens *F* vs *FA*

2001-02-03 Thread barry c.

Hi,

I am currently trying to decide between the Pentax
100mm f2.8 Macro Autofocus SMC-F and SMCP-FA versions.

Optically, are they similar? I can pick up the *F*
version for about $10 less used compared with the *FA*
version.

 Thanks in advance,

Barry
