Those qualities are irrelevant for the majority of my studio work. I
shoot handheld, constantly on the move (on the floor; up a ladder;
shooting from beside or behind my subjects), and with strobes there is
no way in hell that you can see what your exposure is going to be, EVF
or not.

How does an EVF improve on the focusing and framing of the 645's 100%
OVF? I have never been able to manually focus better than since I
started using the Z. Even through a soft focus filter like I did last
weekend.

I'm with Rob re EVF and studio.

Assuming Ricoh is still around and supporting medium format digital in
2019/2020, one of these sensors will be in that upcoming version of
the 645C (if using the 100MP) or 645CL (if using the 150MP version).
No reason they couldn't produce both, for that matter.

Why do you say that? I'm curious.

What I most like about EVF cameras is that you can see precisely, live, what
your exposure is going to be AND the Depth of Field at taking aperture. They
work great for table top and setups. And you have incredibly precise framing
and focusing capabilities. And you can use a large format tablet or tethered
operation with a laptop to remotely control the camera and see framing and
focusing on a large scale display as well with most EVF cameras.

What would make these qualities poor for studio work?

I must say that I couldn't image shooting an EVF in studio, the 645
works really well for that, I'd love a good low light EVF based camera
for some of my more quiet live performance jobs but for now I just get

Having owned and used a Pentax 645 and kit of lenses for some time in the past,
as well as a full Hasselblad kit now, I have to say that if I buy a medium
format digital camera, it will be the Hasselblad X1D. No interest whatever in
the Fuji for me, and there's not enough support for the Pentax in the USA.

I've been interested in the X1D since it was announced. I went to an early demo
last June and found it one of the nicest cameras in the hand I'd ever held,
rival to the Olympus E-1. I went to another Hasselblad event recently and
played with the latest, released version and the latest firmware: It's not yet
perfect (what is?) but it does exactly what I would like and does it very well.
Hasselblad has been very proactive about supporting it, improving the firmware,
etc. And the lenses are outstanding, just like all my Hasselblad lenses have
always been.

Personally, I prefer the EVF. For what I use such a camera for, it's actually a
better viewfinder in almost every way compared to an SLR. Less vibration, less
noise, makes the body smaller, lighter, more hand-holdable ... etc.

When they release the 22mm and the 120 Macro, I'll likely be hunting up the
money for it, I fear. Perfect complement to my current gear. :-)
