One of the things about the big discount centers is they tend to sell last years
model at big discounts. Digital goes out of production so soon that there just
are not many of last years model left for those places to sell.

I didn't mean to sound like I was putting it down. I was just bummed
that there was only one model of Pentax digicam on offer from BJs.
I've come darned close to buying it ever since they've had it. The
only reason I haven't is it would just be that much money I'd have to
save again to get an *ist D and two media formats I'd have to maintain.

BTW, I looked tonight but didn't write it down and can't remember

Pentax at COSTCO

2004-10-26 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Some time ago there was a post here that major discount stores,
including Costco, no longer carry Pentax cameras. I replied that our
local store was still carrying them as of a few weeks back.

I was at Costco yesterday, and decided to check up on the cameras
again. Among about a dozen offerings were the Optio S40 and the MZ-60.
So, Pentax is still out there with the mass market stores, if not as
heavily as we would like.

Our local BJs, which is similar to Costco, has the Optio S4, but that's
it. Still, I guess it's better than nothing.

Heh, heh... do NOT put down the S4.
That is one capable camera.
I bought mine as an interim camera, one I'd carry with me always, Mr.
Everready.
Well, heck, I also used it most of the time (surprise!) and found there
were very, very few situations that could or would fool the exposure
meter, and I got well-exposed shots99% of the time, and the color is great!

I have a fine, compact 5 MP camera I seldom use, primarily because the
S4 does _such_ a good job. It's far less bulky and less intrusive. That
may say more about me, than the camera, but...

The only thing is, it weighs little more than a roll or two of postage
stamps, and as such is subject to human shake and jitter.
Fact is, if you put this camera on a tripod, I challenge you to tell the
difference between it's output and a larger PS or DSLR of the same
sensor size.

I doubt I'll ever get rid of this camera, like I've traded and bought
and sold it's sisters over the years...
This one will be the anchor for any and all others!

Yeah, I do like the Optio S4! g

I sent the original post, but since then have found that while Target and
Wallmart do not offer Pentax film or digital cameras in store in my region,
they do offer them on their web site. Best Buy does not offer Pentax
cameras anymore either in store or on their website.

Actually, the phrase I should have used was don't sell the S4 short.
