When I were a lad we lived in Gibraltar and when the Spanish border was open we'd drive around Andalucia - very primitive still, under Franco - think W E Smith's Spanish Village essay (although that's not Andalucia). One of my prominent memories from that time is this sherry advert everywhere silhouetted against the sky: http://www.motorbike-tours.co.uk/bull.JPG B > On 8 Jun 2014, at 22:54, "Ann Sanfedele" wrote: > > I think that one is worth working on... nice geometry and mood > Understand the technical limits of flatbeds and snapshots > > ann > >> On 6/8/2014 17:38, Jack Davis wrote: >> >> >> I beg your indulgence for just one more.(?) >> >> Don't believe I've posted this at all, if so, certainly not for some time. >> Shot this through my windshield. Marnie, I'm surprised each time I look at this image. It shouldn't work, but somehow does..for me also. Indignant? demeaning? surely not. Certainly no intention. 8^\ As I said, it's your photo and if you're satisfied with it, life is good. I've never heard *anyone* refer to Photoshop tools as '"enhancement" and its submenus' before! The metaphor of that language simply doesn't make any sense to me at all. I'm used to a somewhat more specific vocabulary referring to Photoshop. Sorry if that sounded disrespectful. Godfrey, They are, of course, Photoshop tool references. I tried to respect your ideas and give validity while explaining why I rendered it as I did. You sound a bit indignant and your tone demeaning. Surprises me. Re: PESO: Lonely Bull(?)
Jack, I have no idea what you're referring to with the mention of '"enhancement" and it's sub menus'. And, of course, it's your photograph: as long as it pleases you, that's enough. However, you asked for comments and critique. To my eye, on my monitor, the line of the fence on the grasses is degraded because the tonal separations there are too close together. This is a shame because that fence line would lend a wonderful feel to the photo were it rendered a little more clearly. I wouldn't want to change the overall balance of the photo, it's nice as it is; a gentle adjustment curve to separate those tones (and a mask to prevent the adjustment from affecting anything else) so that they would one to see the composition well in a print or on screen is all that's necessary. I don't know what tools you're using to do your image processing, but if there are "submenus" to effect such adjustments it seems awfully crude. Re: PESO: Lonely Bull(?)
Godfrey, In the past I've messed with "enhancement" and it's sub menus and have, always, come back to this rendering. Oddly, perhaps, I don't want to make out color tones or see MORE detail in the fence or meadow grasses. When I reached a point where I could comfortably feel the weight of the fence line, I stopped. That, together with the stance of the bull(?), were my total concern. The sky was a soft wispy gift. Your ideas are appreciated and would probably please more viewers than mine. Thanks. The foreground is just in that middle area between being too dark to matter and needing a bit of work to pull up some tonal separation. PESO: Lonely Bull(?)
A final offering for today. It was getting late and I had just given up trying to make something out of another scene in the area. I returned to my car, laid the camera in the floor and as I started to hook up my seat belt, looked up and saw this bovine silhouette. Instantly loved the stance, grabbed up the camera (LX w/A 70~210 f/4) and got this shot before it moved. Was taken through a top tinted windshield. I've wondered if the sky would have pleased me as much had I stepped out of the car. Would like your opinions. It has met with a variety in the past.
