 Hi Everyone:

A few weeks ago, I finally upgraded to Lightroom 5 and spent some time
watching Julian Kost's tutorial videos, which I think are done very well.

I took a few minutes here to play with the Upright/Perspective Tool and the
Radial Filter and thought I'd share. Has anyone else tried these tools? Do
 you like them?

What are the general impressions of Lightroom 5?

 Cheers, Christine

Vignetting is not a problem when it is intentional.

Re: some Lightroom 5 play

2013-08-04 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
Hallo Christine,

I've been using LR5 for some time now and found some minor problems here and
there. Little bugs that I worked around—like some weirdnesses editing overlays
in the Print module, an odd bug when importing from a source that contained
PNGs and any .XMP files, etc.

Adobe has released Lightroom 5.2 Release Candidate with some new camera support
and bug fixes. I've been working with it for a few days now ... they've fixed
every bug I found and a few I didn't know about! It seems ever so slightly
snappier in operation than 5.0 as well (at least on my system). Definitely
update to that, and to the release when it comes out.

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom5-2/

The new tools for rectilinear corrections and the radial filter are fantastic,
I've used them quite a lot. The improvements to the spotting tool are also very
very good: I've been shooting a good bit of film lately and the spotting tool
is especially handy when cleaning up a massive 6x6 film scan.

Godfrey

Gerrit: in the meantime you can perspective-straighten your shots
manually in Lr4. In the Develop module, under Lens Corrections choose
the Manual tab. Enable Constrain Crop. Then tweak the Transform:
Vertical slider to suit. The other sliders may be required for other
types of distortion. You can fix shots from unrecognized lenses or
home-made optics, like that one you bought from Tichy. ;-)

I'll give that a try, seem to be learning a lot about LR lately. Not getting

I was taking a look at this

might put new optics in the junk 28-80 Pentax lens I got (just for the

Yep, what Bruce said. The manual option is still and excellent tool, and it's
still around in Lightroom 5. With LR 5 you'll get the option to do a bit of
automatic work (which I think is very good) and manual tweaking. Try it.
What's great about LR is you can experiment away, then with one quick click,
you can reset the photo back to it's original state.

Cheers, Christine
