Thanks Bruce. I've been consulting extreme-macro.co.uk and since I am using Zerene Stacker the tutorials on their page (http://zerenesystems.com). The author behind extreme-macro.co.uk is a Pentax user, BTW. Aside form stacking, lighting the subjects is also a challenge - one that you would probably find more manageable with your studio lighting experience. I had one course in studio lighting and have thought about it quite often when doing these. Thanks, Darren! I am slowly working towards higher magnifications. The Plant Bug was only about 5 mm from head to toe, so getting the up close portrait took a lot of magnification. I tried a reverse mounted A 28mm f2.8 and also a XR Rikenon 28mm f2.8, but neither were sharp enough. SO I went with the DFA 50mm macro on a whole lot of extension. Nicely expressed background to several very nice images! Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: Mark C pdml-m...@charter.net Subject: PESO's - Eat Beef! and a Friend's Passing I learned on Wednesday that a childhood friend had passed way suddenly Tuesday morning, at the age of 57. Cripes - he was only 6 months older than me! We had had been inseparable in junior high school and high school, but had pretty much drifted apart in college and the adult years. As we were leaving Jr. High School he was asked by a reported for the school newspaper to relate a memorable event from his experience in the school. He blurted out: I really like it when we all ate beef. No idea what he was really thinking of but he was probably parodying a popular advertising campaign of the time encouraging people to eat beef. Out little group of friends adopted Eat Beef as a witticism that we perceived to be incredibly ironically insightful. Well, we were 13... So imagine my surprise when in 2011 I stumbled into this bit of rural graffiti: http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/rural-graffiti-eat-beef On learning of my firends passing I went to this photo, which is on this list to be posted someday, and looking at the other images from that shoot I found this one, which with a good bit of photoshop work seems to express my feelings at the time. It was very under exposed ant the image needed some coaxing and manipulation to get out. It visually expresses how I felt on hearing the news: http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/on-learning-of-a-friend-s-passing First photo: Mz-S, F 17-28 fisheye room. Re: PESO's - Early Autumn Woods
Thanks, Ken. I felt that I was flying in the face of conventional wisdom by shooting in bright clear sunlight. Those are both 5 exposure composites, with 2 stops between each. The exposures for the second image (with the more distinct trees trunks) ran from 2 seconds to 1/125th, att at ISO 100 and f11. Used a tripod of course. I put a spirit level on the K3 but never looked at it, considering how good the electronic level in live view is. In terms of post exposure: I combined the 5 images in Photomatix v4.2 using a couple of its techniques, then blended those two images as PS layers and then still did some work on the curves, color balance and saturation. The K3 produces remarkable detail. I think it rivals or at least comes close to what I can get from 6x7 film, but even it can't handle the contrast of full late morning sun poking through dense foliage. The link works for me so I think it is OK... I guess if flickr can't deliver images reliably I won't feel so bad about my website going off the rails! Thanks, Dan - these are 5 image HDR composites, though I tried to hold the HDR toning at bay. The contrast of the late morning sun was pretty harsh. Mark On 10/1/2014 2:38 PM, Daniel J. I like the tree trunks in the second one, and the light coming in between them. Re: PESO's - Early Autumn Woods
I favor the first, myself, from the evenness of light and the geometry :-) - Eliot Porteresque... I like the way the light area is like a stripe in the middle and a trail of it in the ferns lead there and the blanket of fern in the foreground, and the spread of color, and and and I like it ann On 10/1/2014 17:23, Mark C wrote: Thanks, Attila! Nicely done! It takes a big mean bird to make a usually aggressive cardinal wait its turn.
